Windows 10: Trying to assign Microsoft account to local administrator on PC

    Trying to assign Microsoft account to local administrator on PC


    I seems like Microsoft's system is not working properly. I just reinstalled a PC and tried to login as a local administrator using my Microsoft ID. It would not let me do it during the start up phase and said I was not hooked up to the internet. I bypassed and did all the windows 10 updates.


    I went back later and tried to use the local administrators credentials and used the Microsoft Account instead. I got a warning that there was a problem on their end. the words were "Oops, there is a problem on our end, try again"


    I don't know how many times that I tried again, but I am tired.


    Is something down at Microsoft?

    Change Microsoft Account Details in Administrator Account


    Hi Daryl, welcome to the Ten Forums.

    It's quite easy in fact, simply switch the account in question first to a local account, then switch back to a Microsoft account, this time using your wife's MS account credentials.

    Tutorials:
    Notice that before doing this you need to remove the new additional MS account on the PC, the one you created with her credentials. Windows allows only one user account for each email address, if the new account exists you cannot switch the original administrator account to an MS account using the same email address.     Local account to administrator

    Just to be straight with terminology.

    You can set up your device with a local account or Microsoft account.

    Within each of these options you can then either be an Administrator or a Standard user.

    If you go Start, Settings, Account and click on Your Info is it listing you as a local account and just below that are you Standard or Administrator.

    Should my Microsoft Account have administrator privileges?

    I just finished reinstalling Windows 10 (Creator version) and decided to have the installation process create a Microsoft Account instead of bypassing that step like I have on other laptops in the past and creating a local account later. After the install I went to Accounts in the settings and saw that the Microsoft Account was listed as an Administrator. I always thought the main user should only have standard privs for security purposes. Thoughts? Should I create a new admin account and try and change the MSA to a standard account?
