Windows 10: Trying to connect via Ethernet not working.

Hi, i have a custom build desktop and i just got my new hard drive in and loaded it up with win 10, and immediately started having issues connecting via Ethernet. I have tried many online tutorials in an attempt to fix this issue. its not my modem or cable, my computer doesn't have wireless connection as it was custom built. I suspect it has something to do with airplane mode because when i'm on the log in screen it shows it on in grey, i cant turn it off tho. even when i go to the windows network settings the "Airplane Mode" tab isn't there, as well as the "Wifi" and other tabs. I have been working on this for about 4 hours now and have got nowhere. if anyone could help it would be very appreciated.

My reliable ethernet connection no longer works

To better understand the query, please answer the following questions:

• After restarting is your computer in normal mode or not?
• Are you getting any error message?

I suggest you to reset the modem\ router and check if the Ethernet connection works or not.

If still the issue persist then I suggest you to follow the steps from the below article

• Did you try to change the Ethernet and check if the network is connecting?
• Is the Ethernet working in other computers?
• Are there any changes made on your computer prior to the issue?

Ethernet shows red X and does not appear in settings, but still works


Not sure why this is happening. I have working ethernet and am connected, it works fine. But the taskbar icon shows a red X over it, and the tooltip says "Not Connected - No connections are available". Looking in "Network & Internet", ethernet is not even listed there. And before anyone suggests wireless interference .. this PC does not have a wireless card or integrated wireless.
