Windows 10: Trying to correct the email I accidentally signed in with when setting up my new surface.

While setting up my new surface I entered my phone number to access my microsoft account which I didnt realize was associated with an old work gmail not my personal email. I wish there would have been a way to go back, choose another account or confirm the accuracy of what account I wanted to use, but as soon as I saw what email my phone number was associated with, it was too late and there was no option to go back.

When looking at the settings I found how to add another email account. I thought I could simply add another account and delete the first, but I cannot find my way back to the same screen. So after a few HOURS of googling for answers and exploring the new computer I decided to simply delete my old email. So I went to google and did so, Google says it is scheduled to be deleted in 2 months! So I cant get immediate results from them either. After I have exhausted every attempt to correct the email in any way I can. I still see the old email when signing into the computer or opening a new app.

This was my Day 1 with windows. I literally spent most of the day just trying to correct the email with no success.

Your Microsoft account needs you to sign in again-recent credentials


Yes the correct or current info is in the Settings/Accounts/Your email and accounts.
The steps in the tutorial included signing in after deleting a listing. I couldn't see where that was relevant since its a second listing. It looks like I have to voluntarily do the 'sign in' so I can avoid doing that. I'm locked out for 30 days anyway.
Perhaps its time to set up a stand alone user account in that laptop <grin> Too nerve wracking dealing with this MSAccount.

 

Won't sign in to correct account

IIRC, I was able to sign into Xbox.com and change my email address to my MSA email. Please try doing this and tie it to the same email you use for Windows. Let us know if that resolves your issue.

 

I can't sign in with my new email address

I've recently changed my login in email address, but my Surface Pro 3 is not recognizing the change. It's stuck trying to sign me in using my old address. I can access my Outlook page without issue, so I know my password and new address are correct. How
do I get the Surface to synch with my new information?
