Trying to customize taskbar search & Folder Explorer (Default view)

I have a large number of research articles on my laptop (via dropbox). One thing I loved about Windows 7 was that I could just hit the Start button, type a keyword into the search box and a results window would pop up that listed every matching document on my computer. I was also able to customize this so that it always came up in "Details" view.

I can't seem to get that same thing with Windows 10. When I type something into the search field on the task bar, I have to first select that I want it to search my stuff and not the web. After I do that it will only bring up a limited amount of results. I have to click again to see the whole set of hits--and then if I hit "Folder Explorer" at the bottom of the menu, it brings up the results in "Tile" view.

First, I can't figure out how to set the Folder Explorer default view to "Details".

Also, is there a way I search directly into Folder Explorer via the task bar search box?

Next, I don't mind that the taskbar offers me the option of websearch but how can I switch the search engine to Google instead of Bing?

    Thanks!

  2. How do I change the default view for Windows 10 File Explorer search results?

Hi Ramesh, just to be clear before I try this - you're talking about choosing which columns display by default and their widths for the
search view, right? My regular details view for all General items folders displays the same columns and widths everywhere - no problems at all there. The problem since 1607 lies only when I search these
General items folders because every folder's search view needs to be customized separately now. So once again, does your proposed fix target the search view for all folders or their normal view?

Also, what's the easiest way to identify the Bag# of a particular folder whose search view columns I have customized?

Thanks for all the help with this issue!

Customize default view in the "Save as" Window

    Hello All,

I am looking for a way to customize the "Save as" file explorer window in Windows 10. Specifically I want it to default to a view where all files and folder are sorted by the "date modified" view with the most recent files on the top.

Strangely, customizing the view in regular file explorer and using the "Apply to Folders" button under "Folder Options" to set this view as the default for all Folder views does not apply to the "Save as" window.

So after setting the default view as described above, every file explorer window EXCEPT the save as window sort everything by Date Modified by default. Now if when I am navigating through a "save as" window (any application) and I change a view to be sorted
by "Date Modified" it stays that way, but I'd like that to just be the default view. I feel that if Windows can remember how I left the window there must be a way to change the default view. A registry hack maybe?

Does anyone know of a way to change the default view of the "Save as" window" to be sorted by "Date modified"?

    Thanks

    -Dave

Are you using Cortana? You can disable that because it can be rather annoying.
You can also disable web searches as that tends to get in the way as well.

Click on the little gear icon in the search menu and disable those two options.

Other than that the File Explorer Search option doesn't give you what you want? That hasn't changed one bit, that I know of, unless you have Windows Search uninstalled.
