  1. Trying to install the most recent update "soft-bricked" my pc

When trying to install the new windows 11 update earlier today Nov. 14, 2023, my PC went to a blue screen with the menu options:"Continue to Windows 10""Troubleshoot"Turn PC off"Choosing the windows 10 option just brings me back to the menu.None of the options in "Troubleshoot" work. I'm just told "there was a problem," and I can't even factory reset my PC because of this.Turning off the PC just brings me back to this menu when I turn it back on.

W10 June 2020 Updates Soft Bricked Laptop. Now trying to recover...

Greetings Ken. I had completed all of the suggestions and was getting nowhere, but at least the machine was operable. Then W10 updates for June started rolling in on 6/1/20. More on 6/2 and on 6/10. In between, the machine got less and less functional. Numerous restarts, numerous time outs where I just turned it off in hopes that would make difference.

Finally on 6/11/20 the machine was what I call a Soft Brick. Not quite bricked, but the next thing to it. It would boot but took forever. Then boot finished and the desktop is displayed and cannot open any programs or navigate the web. Kept getting msg that the requested command could not be completed due to timeout (not exact wording but that was the gist of it - could not even take a screen shot due to the soft brick problem).

Then I decided to try one or both of two things: either clone the HDD to an SSD, which I'd been planning for awhile anyway (figured the machine would benefit from new SSD and upgrade in RAM) or uninstall all the W10 updates since 6/1/20.

Discovered how to uninstall W10 updates with CMD since could not open the Updates section (always got the fail due to timeout msg). Updated three only to come back the next day and at least one would b reinstalled if I'd left computer on overnight.

The odd thing was that as this happened, the computer started responding better. Now I can at least open Chrome and navigate. So I decided to try for the clone task.

After MUCH web reading, discovered that I have a GPT HDD with 7 partitions, and the SSD I bought (in ignorance at the time) is MBR. So if I'm finally understanding this correctly, I have to perform the following steps before I can arrive at "The HDD has been cloned to the SSD."

    1. Find a free software that actually works. I saw an article Brink wrote on MiniTool so am using it.
    2. Merge partitions on the HDD so I end up with four, which is the max that will fit on the SSD.
    a. Have merged two partitions - now waiting for Minitool to perform the merge during the reboot phase....
    b. I seem to have picked up that if I have an NTFS partition next to a FAT, I will have to convert the FAT to NTFS before I can merge them. Do I perceive this correctly?
    3. Change the boot order on the laptop so that after the GPT (HDD) is converted to MBR (SSD), the SSD will successfully boot.
    4. Convert the GPT drive to MBR
    5. Open the case to pull the HDD and replace with SSD. (At same time put in my extra RAM.)

May I ask if I've correctly perceived what I need to do, and the correct order?
