Windows 10: Trying to mount USB card reader to WSL.

I have Windows 11 running Kali using WSL. I have a USB sd card reader that I would like to mount so I can view linux file system sdcards. I use: get-ciminstance -query "select * from win32_diskdrive", to list my available drives. Then use: wsl --mount \\.\PHYSICALDRIVE2 --bare, to mount. I received this error: The system cannot find the drive specified. Error code: Wsl/Service/AttachDisk/0x8007000fWhen I put the USB stick into the pc, it shows in file explorer. When I run the mount command, it disappears. Any help getting this to work would be appreciated.

WSL 2 WIN11 pass through USB SD Card reader

My goal: pass through a USB connected SD Card into WSL so that I can image the SD Card using dd

My set up:

Win11 (10.0.22000 Build 22000))

WSL2

OS installed Ubuntu

Linux Kernel: 5.10.102.1-microsoft-standard-WSL2 #1 SMP

I have tried to use USBIPD to pass through the USB device which has worked as the lsusb shows:

Bus 002 Device 003: ID 067b:2731 Prolific Technology, Inc. USB SD Card Reader

Yet, I cannot find where it has mounted the drive?

Have I missed a step?

I have used drvfs to mount it in windows and can access by mounting in Linux which does work but this is just a mounted folder, I need the disk to be mounted for dd to work its magic...

 

How to Access USB Drives via WSL

Hello,

I have recently enabled/installed WSL on Win 10 Home Edition. I can see the c drive under /mnt/c/ but I cannot see a the D drive. D in this case happens to be an SD Card which is visible and browse-able through windows explorer.

Where are the USB drives mounted in WSL?

Card reader not recognised in W10

Hi Reggie,

I realize the inconvenience you are facing regarding the external card reader. I will certainly assist you.

Please answer the below questions to assist you better.

1) Did you try connecting to other USB ports or in other computers?

2) What is the status of this device in device manager? Check if there is a yellow sign or any error code.

3) Is the issue specific to the Card reader or other USB devices?

4) Are you getting any error message or error code?

Follow the below methods and check if it helps.

Method 1:

Run the Hardware troubleshooter and check. Follow the steps to run the troubleshooter:

• Type Troubleshooting in the search bar and click Troubleshooting
  
• Select View all in the right pane.
• Select Hardware and devices troubleshooter.
• Follow the onscreen instructions.

Method 2:

Uninstall and reinstall the latest USB drivers from manufacturer's website and then try connecting the external card reader.

Follow these steps to un-install the drivers:

• On the search bar type “ Device Manager”
• On the left pane locate “Universal Serial Bus Controllers” and expand by clicking on it.
• Right on all the USB adapters and click “Uninstall’
• Download the latest USB adapter setup file from the manufacturer’s website and install it.
