  1. Trying to open Windows from an old HDD to a new Motherboard and CPU

    Hello,

I decided to upgrade certain parts of the PC I built. I bought a new motherboard Gigabyte B460M DS3H, new CPU Intel core i5 10100, and new RAM to upgrade the older parts. I've put everything together, and I cannot get past the BIOS setup. I am not trying to buy windows and freshly install it, I rather wish to transfer the Windows 10 currently on my HDD to the new build. Windows Boot Manager is listed in the Boot Sequence in the BIOS setup menu, but when I try to open up the "Boot Menu" pressing F12 after turning on the computer, Windows Boot Manager is not listed, and my only option is to once again enter BIOS setup.

If it is necessary for me to have prepped something in Windows before installing new hardware, I can reinstall the old hardware to do so ive already done this once, but my goodness I'd really rather not. Im going insane...please help!

TL;DR How do I start up Windows on my new motherboard, from my not-new HDD?

Important Note: I dont really know much about Computer systems, so I may have to ask a lot of questions to whoever responds...there are so many acronyms that are unfamiliar to me.

Important Note 2: I do NOT wish to wipe my HDD. I have a lot of files and settings I wish to keep. I want to turn on my computer and have everything look the same as it was before, except that its running better on newer hardware.

    Thanks,

    ~Nick

  3. New motherboard, new windows 10?

Do I need to get a new version of windows 10 if I'm upgrading to a new motherboard + CPU but still using the same HDD/SSD which will have windows 10 installed on it?

Also when changing my CPU and motherboard will I need to mess around with the BIOS for anything? I'd be happily surprised if it was literally plug and play.

Windows 10 BSOD after upgrading cpu

I hope you checked the compatibility list of supported processors from the motherboard maker.

Inaccessible boot device simply means the computer cannot find the necessary files after Boot. As you said you have a spare HDD, I would suggest to put in the new CPU and do a clean Install on it. If that works, then again you would have to do a clean install
    on the primary hdd.
