Windows 10: Trying to recover or open a tmp or dmp file from a Wordpad document that just disappeared...

I created a file in Wordpad with Windowes 7. I didn't save it at any time. It's a very important file for a petition and when I changed screens just to do a Google spell check I returned and the file was gone...completely. I knew approximately the exact time it happened so when I did a search on my HD for anything created at that time I got a .tmp file I save and a .dmp file. I have no idea how to openj them so I can see the text properly. I had the computer on without shutting it off and the program running just in case for 2 days looking for a way, a program, to save this file which may be i

Open documents in Wordpad

• What type of document are you trying to open in WordPad?
  

If you are trying to open XML documents on your computer, then you can use in-built XPS viewer on the computer that will help you in opening the XML documents. To install XPS viewer, please follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Press and hold Windows key + I, to open
   Settings.
   
2. Click on Apps.
   
3. Click on Manage optional features.
   
4. Click on Add a feature.
   
5. Scroll down, click on XPS viewer and click on
   Install.
   
6. Once XPS viewer is installed, you can open the XML files in XPS viewer.

Wordpad documents being saved to Word

Hi Mike

If RTF documents are opening in Word:

Right click an RTF document, choose 'Open With' - Choose Another App

Important - Check the box marked 'Always use this app to open xxx . . .'

If Wordpad is not in the list, scroll to the bottom and click 'More Apps'

Wordpad should be in that list . . .

Choosing Wordpad form one of those lists will reset the file associations on RTF documents and they should then automatically open in Wordpad . . .

 

Power outage while working in Wordpad

The example for searching by .tmp keeps bringing up a file that the document was in. Mine wasn't in a file. It was a regular Wordpad document that I was working on. That's why when I tried the .tmp search it came up blank, because there is no file.
