Windows 10: Trying to remove/Disable OneDrive deleted most of my personal files

I was trying to disable OneDrive's synchronizing stuff, and for some god forsaken reason, doing that deleted a majority of the personal files i have on my desktop. I was trying to desync it so that I could play with friends, but then when i went to play another game, i noticed my macros weren't working. After looking into it, the files I needed as well as majority of the files i've saved over time on my desktop were gone. I am incredibly stressed trying to restore the files that were taken from me. please help.

OneDrive Personal Vault corrupt on Windows 11 Error Code: 0x8004100e

I already did that. A couple of times. Most recently, as follow-on steps to your recommendation to delete my Personal Vault permanantly:

1. Followed your steps to permanently delete Personal Vault on OneDrive web
   
2. On my laptop:
   
   1. Disabled OneDrive backups
      
   2. Unlink this PC
      
   3. Uninstalled OneDrive application
      
   4. Deleted OneDrive folder
      
   5. Rebooted
      
   6. Reinstalled OneDrive
      
   7. Logged back in and retried Personal Vault - same error
      

 

OneDrive what?

First!!! I would check if they are files you need before doing anything. You can even back them up first. That said, you can either delete, move or do both. Deleting/moving them will also delete/removed them for your online folder, and also stop the notifications that your drive is nearing full. I'd also suggest you review the tutorial linked above. Should you not want to use the app, or remove it.

 

OneDrive personal vault deleted

The Personal Vault in your OneDrive folder on the PC is considered a folder shortcut to the Personal Vault on your online OneDrive (cloud). A shortcut is treated like a file for how it's listed.
