  1. Trying to retrieve an old default Microsoft account

Recently, my Dell XPS laptop crashed which has meant that I have lost lots of documents that weren't backed up on a memory stick. Most of these documents were word documents which I saved onto my laptop with my default microsoft account. This default microsoft account was created when I set up my laptop. Because I never used this default microsoft account for anything else, I cannot remember the microsoft email address. If I was able to login back into this account, would I be able to restore these lost word documents? If so, is there any way I can try and log back in?Many thanks!

    :)

  2. Trying to switch to Microsoft account from local, unable to...

I tried that, more than once. I go thru the complete procedure of getting a new Microsoft account password, then when I reach the final step to key in the Windows password, I try my NEW Microsoft account password, and I get the same message-invalid password. No luck. Any other suggestions.

How to replace old Microsoft Account with a new Microsoft Account

    Hi Hitendra,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. I understand your concern and I am glad to assist you.

I would suggest you to switch your Microsoft account to a Local account first and then switch back with a new Microsoft account. Please refer to the following steps:

    Step 1:

    • Type Manage your accounts
in the search bar and click on it
    • Click on "sign in with a local account instead"
    • Press next and complete the process.
    • If you do not have a local account, leave the credentials blank and proceed.

Step 2: Now, on the newly converted Local account, follow these steps to add a new MSA.

    1. In the Start search, type "Manage your accounts" and press Enter.

    2. Choose 'Accounts'.

    3. Click on "sign in with a local account instead"

    4. Enter the Microsoft account ID and Password and click Next.

Hope this post helps. Get back to us for further queries. We are happy to help!
