Windows 10: trying to share drive between pc and laptop, but "Windows cannot access \\PC_Name\Drive_Name"

Hi All,I've been trying to set up a shared drive however I have been running around in circles trying to fix the error, "Windows cannot access \\PC_Name\Drive_Name". My laptop is running Windows 10 Home, and Pc is running Windows 11 Pro, though what I've seen it has the same process. I'm trying to share a drive from my laptop to my pc. But I encounter the error. I've tried to turn on Password-Protected Sharing but then no username or password I enter allows me to continue, I try the username of the laptop and pc, email of the laptop and pc, and nothing works, I've also tried it with both the p

I've gone in a HUGE circle trying to resolve this issue "You do not have permission to access \\PC_NAME contact your network administrator to request access" and so far zero success. I found another post about the same subject at "Redirecting and tried the suggested solution (several times to ensure I did not miss a step) which did not work for me.

I have two PCs (Shelia-PC and Taylor-PC) in a local wired network, both are in the WORKGROUP, both are running Windows 10 and both have the latest updates.

I'm attempting to share a drive on the Shlia-PC, permission was set to full access for everyone.

 

LAPTOP is not accessible ..... Access is denied.

I am trying to share a folder on a LAPTOP. I have other a number of other systems that have folders Shared and they work fine, but with this one I get the error "LAPTOP is not accessible ..... Access is denied." when I try to access it from a different Win10 system. So I went thru the entire "How to Share Files and Folders Over a Network in Windows 10" tutorial step by step. File and Print Sharing is enabled, SMB1.0 client & server are running, and Everyone has Full Access to the Share. Still get the error. I have tried it with the Network Public and Private, with the same result. Any suggestions ? Microsoft Windows 10 Home Version 10.0.19042 Build 19042

 

Error: You do not have permissions to access \\ PC name while trying to access and Excel file

We understand that when you try to access an Excel file, you get an error. It would be great if you can help us with the details requested below to help you further with the issue:

• Does this issue occur while accessing any other file?
  
• Is the computer connected to a Domain/organizational network?
  
• Which build version of Windows are you using? To check type:
  winver in the search bar on the Taskbar and hit
  Enter.
  

We would suggest you to try accessing the shared folder using the path and see if that helps. Follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Press Windows key + R, to open
   Run dialog box.
   
2. Type \\shared folder path and click on
   OK.
   

However, you may try providing permissions to the folder where the files are saved and see if you are able to access the files. Refer the steps mentioned below:

1. Navigate to the location on the PC through which the files are shared.
   
2. Right click on the folder and select Properties.
   
3. Click on Sharing tab, and click on
   Advanced Sharing.
   
4. Now, select the checkbox for Share this folder.
   
5. Click on Permissions, select the check box for
   Allow Full Control.
   
6. Click on OK (Twice).

If an IT Administrator manages the folder, then you may have to get in touch with the administrator to reset or grant permissions to access the file.
