Windows 10: Trying to update vanilla Windows 10

So I have a three year old HP laptop that I dug out of the closet. My mom's broke and she needs one for work. It was running poorly so I did a full restore deleting everything and reinstalling the OS. I tried to run Windows update afterwards and it installed up to 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB4033631). Then it had an error and said it couldn't install. So I restarted the laptop which prompted the updates to finish installing. Looking at the update history it had an issue with Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB4093120) all the way to Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - December 2019 (KB890830). Now I am prompting another "check for updates" and currently installing again just hoping it was having an issue installing newer updates without the older ones applying yet. I also tried to manually download the newest update on Windows Update page and it said my current version wasn't compatible. I am assuming because you have to update each of them one at a time. Am I going about this the right way? Is there something I should be doing differently? Currently the latest download is at 29 percent after about a half an hour. The last time it failed it shot to 100 percent almost instantly then failed.

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

srlsly? Looks like MS nerfed it then. Hope you get it sorted.

I have to confess that I've not paid much attention to it and didn't bother updating it, although I probably should have.
