I already have CPU-Z. Rather than screen shots, I'll attach the entire output if I can.

Here are the screenshots (hmmm... the original RAM was also Kingston - I missed that):

In the screenshot above you are running 2 different sets of ram. 2 Dimms made by Kingston and 2 Dimms with a Generic ram with no manufacturer listed, shows part number as Vcolor though. Are you sure that is the original ram?

Also, I saw where you are trying to upgrade ram. You are showing 2 sets of screenshots with different sets installed in each. Although I read the thread, could you refresh me and explain the problem you are having? I thought you couldn't boot with one set. What did I miss?

When I purchased the computer originally, the model in the shop had 4GB RAM with two empty slots and I had the shop add 4 more GB before I took it home. So when I say "original RAM" I mean what I've been running with ever since I bought the computer some years ago. The computer boots just fine with those 4 2GB sticks.

I now want to upgrade to 16 GB from the original 8 GB (4 x 2GB), and I purchased 4 x 4GB sticks. I bought Patriot RAM 1600 first and couldn't get that to work. I was able to return those for a refund.

I then bought 4 x 4GB Kingston RAM, described above. Those, like the Patriot RAM, will not allow me to boot at all, in any combination of old 2GB sticks and new 4GB sticks, or all 4GB sticks. I can boot with just two of the old RAM or with all 4 of the old RAM but not with the new RAM at all.

Unfortunately, I cannot return those for a refund due to the second store's return policy. I can however exchange them for something else in the store.

So my issue is I'm trying either to find a way to get the new Kingston RAM to work, or to find out why not so I can go back to the store that sold them and tell them what I need that will work.

try taking all the ram out and install 1 stick of the new ram in the slot closest to the CPU and try to boot up. Make sure it is installed and seated properly. you will be running 1 stick of ram only.

Find your model number on Gateway's web site and see if there is a newer version of your chipset driver. Was your computer brand new when you bought it?

  5. Only Accessing 8gb of 16gb RAM?

    in Windows 10 Ask Insider
Only Accessing 8gb of 16gb RAM?: TL;DR: I have a full 16gb RAM installed, but Windows only ever seems to use 8gb of it. Why? I've filled up all 4 DIMMs with some memory - 4gb per. Windows 10 identifies all 16gb in Task Manager, but only ever "uses" 8gb of it - never a single byte more. This is despite me...
