Trying to use Microsoft Account for Log In on PC, get "Oops - something went wrong"

I'll start off by saying I had this same issue 3 months ago on the same PC and was able to resolve this issue then. I did not leave myself breadcrumbs to figure it out again. The PC in question had a hardware defect and the hard drive was wiped by the manufacturer, requiring Windows and all apps be reinstalled...and this issue coming back. This is a fresh install of Windows, so I believe this is something related to network or Microsoft "cloud" such as account permissions on the back end.I have spent a good few hours trying to figure this out and am at an impasse. I have tried all sorts of t

  2. Oops something went wrong - microsoft account

    Hi there

I need to upgrade my windows 10 insider build (10547) as it expires in a few days. In order to upgrade it I need to log in with my microsoft account. However, when I try to do that I get the following message:

"Oops something went wrong. Whatever happened, it was probably our fault. Please try again."

    What I did so far

    - entered my correct password, my account works fine on browsers

    - I tried Microsoft account troubleshooter - told me that I have to log in with my microsoft account. Thanks.

    - created new windows user and tried again - nope

    - yes. I restarted the computer. Thanks.

    - no, I dont have other Microsoft accounts logged in.

    Any ideas/solutions?

    Thanks in advance.

"Oops, something went wrong" when trying to log in with Microsoft Account

I think after the last update I noticed that my account is actually set to local. When I try to log in with Microsoft account instead I get the error "Oops, something went wrong" .

As a result my Microsoft Store also give error that I need internet connection eventho I'm connected. (0x800704cf)

My phone app also gives the same error 0x800704cf

    I tried:

    a) sfc /scannow - no errors

    b) create new admin account with the same email and password...getting stuck on create PIN window with error that it can not create PIN. If you click skip than it logs out immediately.

    c) tried to create user account with the same email and password...same as b)

    d) tried to create a new user account with different email and password (my son's) fail at the PIN window as b

    e) tried to log in to windows store with my work account (0x800704cf).

    f) tried repair install which worked fine but did not resolve the issue

I also noticed that the desktop is missing from online account under My Devices...

Win ver 1909 build 18363.778.. computer is up-to-date with updates pending install

this issue is annoying and some help will be appreciated.

Setting up microsoft accounts for family safety - Windows 10

    Hi,

thanks for the reply, but having tried everything you suggested - again. I had tried all these things initially and only raised the question when I ran out of things to try!

I still get the same problem. When attempting to following the steps below, the problem occurs at step 3 - when trying to "Sign in with a Microsoft account instead". This is where the unhelpful "Oops something went wrong" message occurs when entering the
windows password "for the last time".

The child's Microsoft account does exist, and I can log in to it via a web browser, but I don't seem to be able to link it to the account he logs in to the PC with. The troubleshooter just detects the fact that he is not logged in with a Microsoft account
(I ran this with both my account, which is fine, and then when logged in with the child's account)!

Check your child’s account on the PC that your child uses

    • Have your child sign in to the PC.

    • Open Settings, then select Accounts.

    • Select Your account.

      • If your child doesn’t currently sign in with a Microsoft account, select
Sign in with a Microsoft account instead and enter their email address.

      • If an email address is already associated with their account, make a note of it. You’ll use it to add their Microsoft account to your family at

        account.microsoft.com/family
        .
