Turn off free space check when copying?

Hi, is there any way to stop Windows checking the amount of free space on the destination when copying files?

I have an external drive holding a few terabytes of files and folders copied from the attached server. On a weekly basis I would like to update these files by copying the same files & folders but only replacing with files that are newer. That part of it works OK until there is less free space on the drive than the size of the files & folders selected.

For example, if I have a folder containing 1 Tb of files & folders already copied to the external drive, when I want to copy this selection again I cannot do so if there is less than 1Tb of free space even though only there are only 10Gb of files that are newer and most would replace existing files anyway.

Many thanks for any suggestions, Eddie

    :)

  2. Not enough space even though there is space

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

We will surely assist you with the issue. Refer the below steps.

    Step 1:

I suggest you to change the file system to NTFS while formatting and then try copying the files and check.

    Step 2:

      • Take the backup of the data, if you have any important data in it?
      • Let’s format the drive and check.
      • Go to this PC.
      • Right click on the external USB device.
      • Select Format.

Note: Formatting will delete all the data in the device, taking a backup of the data is recommended before performing a format.

Keep us posted for further assistance, we will be glad to help.
