That's ok. You can use the tutorial below to see if you have any policies enabled in Group Policy. If you do, report back which ones to see if one may be responsible for this. Usually, it'll be the policy in the tutorial I posted above.

If you mean from the context menu of removable drives, then you could disable AutoPlay using an option below that should do so.

I already have AutoPlay disabled for everything in my settings/options. I was just wondering if it was possible to remove the option in the Windows 10 Context Menu options? A quick Google led to no results.

ALL of my drives are attached through an internal SATA ports directly to the motherboard.

Yes, but did you already disable AutoPlay using group policy?

I think I turned off each one manually. It was a week ago, and one of the first things I did while installing Windows 10, and using/playing w/ 10 for the first time.

I just used group policy and the context menu entry is officially gone.

I'm not aware of a way to set AutoPlay for specific drives instead of for device types. *Sad

 

I followed this thread because my Autoplay stopped working while fiddling with setting up Windows To Go on a USB flash drive.

One of your links links contained a registry on/off files which gave me its location which showed Autoplay was OFF. This is the second time that W10 policies don't seem to work but the other time I was using a Technical Preview which anything is possible.

Hi guys. I'm a very experience PC and Windows user (since PC-DOS and MS-DOS days to date myself) but new to this forum. I have a very similar problem and it seems like there is no solution yet in this thread.

I upgraded from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro during the free upgrade period. Since then, AutoPlay doesn't work for my USB ports--both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0. Of course, it worked fine prior to the upgrade.

I have tried everything in this thread. I've set proper values in the Windows 10 Settings window, in the Control Panel AutoPlay window, and verified there are no group policies for AutoPlay. I also added the DWORD value to the registry and nothing changes the behavior. When I plug a USB drive into any USB port, the drive shows up in File Explorer of course, but doesn't automatically open File Explorer.

Interestingly my wife's upgraded computer works fine and her computer is the same brand (Microcenter's PowerSpec) but a model slightly newer. Very odd but then again, after all these years I expect Odd from Microsoft sometimes. *Smile

Does anyone have any other ideas before I do an thorough A/B comparison between my machine and my wife's machine?

Setting the "Removable drive" option in AutoPlay to "Open folder to view files (File Explorer)" should have your USB flash drives open in File Explorer whenever connected to your PC.

It sounds like you checked all the usual items.

If you haven't already, check to make sure that you have the latest USB drivers installed from the motherboard or PC manufacturer to rule that out as a possible cause.
