Information Microsoft Edge is a new web browser that is available across the Windows 10 device family. It is designed for Windows 10 to be faster, safer, and compatible with the modern Web.

When you open Microsoft Edge for the first time after it gets an update or after resetting Microsoft Edge, a Welcome to Microsoft Edge page will open in the Get Started tab giving you helpful setup instructions and information about what's new.

After you close Microsoft Edge, the welcome page is suppose to no longer open by default.

Sometimes the Welcome to Microsoft Edge page may continue to open each time you open Microsoft Edge, and you want to turn it off. You may wish to have the Welcome to Microsoft Edge page open again just for the next time you open Microsoft Edge. You may also wish to always have the Welcome to Microsoft Edge page open as the start page every time you open Microsoft Edge.

This tutorial will show you how to turn on or off having the welcome page open in Microsoft Edge for your account in Windows 10.

OPTION ONE [/i] To Turn On or Off Microsoft Edge Welcome Page using a REG file


Note The .reg files below modify the value in the registry key below.

1. Do step 2 (on) or step 3 (off) below for what you would like to do.


2. To Turn On Microsoft Edge Welcome Page for Only Next Time Microsoft Edge is Opened
A) Close all Microsoft Edge windows.

B) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

3. To Turn Off Microsoft Edge Welcome Page
A) Click/tap on the Download button below to download the file below, and go to step 4 below.

4. Save the .reg file to your desktop.

5. Double click/tap on the downloaded .reg file to merge it.

6. If prompted, click on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve the merge.

7. You can now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.





OPTION TWO [/i] To Set Welcome Page as Start Page for Microsoft Edge to Always Open With
1. Set a "custom" start page in Microsoft Edge using the web address below. (see screenshot below)

Tip To undo this option, you can remove this web address and/or set a different start page for Microsoft Edge to open with.

Default pages for Microsoft Edge

I understand that you are trying to set the starting page for the Microsoft Edge of your preferred web pages. We will help you.

I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps you.

• Open Microsoft Edge.
• Click on the ". . ." at the top right corner. Select Settings.
• Under Open Microsoft Edge with. Select Specific pages.
• Set the webpages and Save.

Stop Microsoft Edge from opening last session instead of home page

Let's try them again. The first would be to open Settings in Edge and see what 'Open Microsoft Edge with' is set for. Try changing it to 'Previous pages' then close Edge. Open it again and change it to 'New tab page'. Restart the PC and see if the problem returns. If it doesn't, you can then set it for your preferred setting (if that wasn't the new tab).

Do you have a Microsoft Account? If so, is Edge set to sync settings across accounts? It may be that Edge on another device you use is set to open previous pages. Either turn off sync or check that none of your other devices have Edge set to reopen previous pages.

Do you have another sign in for this PC? If not, make a new local account as a test. Does Edge have the same problem in another account?

If none of the above help, or if it is only the current account that has the problem, try resetting Edge for the current account, Step 2 in this tutorial. If all accounts are affected, try Step 3.

Change Startup Page in Microsoft Edge

Appreciate your welcome and your prompt response - I have appreciated your advice on this forum in the past, especially with the registry fix for choosing where to save downloaded files from Edge!

I have checked my Edge settings, and they are as follows:

• Open Microsoft Edge with new tab page
• Open new tabs with a blank page

So I can't see any reference to MSN here... it even diverts via this URL if you click on a saved favourite site!

Glad of any further advice or suggestions please.

 

Microsoft is developing a built-in ad blocker for its Edge browser

"One of the first browser add-ons many people install to improve their online experience is Adblock Plus or something similar. Until recently, Microsoft Edge's lack of support for add-ons put off a lot of would-be users, but reports from Build 2016 suggest that native ad blocking is on its way to the Internet Explorer successor.

Adblock Plus is coming to Edge, but built-in ad blocking would negate the need for such an add-on. A slide shown off and snapped at a Build presentation shows that the next version of Edge, in response to user feedback, will feature ad blocking capabilities. There's no word on delivery timescale, but the upcoming Windows 10 Anniversary Update would seem a likely candidate.

ZDNet's Ed Bott photographed the slide which shows Microsoft's development roadmap built around feedback from testers. Right at the top of the list is reference to plans to create a plugin and extension store for Edge, but it's entry number four that's more intriguing.

"Build ad blocking features into the browser" is listed as a Feature Request from users. But the good news is that it is not only listed as being "Deliverable 4682811", but as "Targeted for the next version".

This will no doubt come as good news for those who have fallen in love with Edge, but it's not something that will be welcomed by the likes of Adblock Plus. It does seem that, particularly in the mobile arena, there is a move to baking ad blocking into the browser so it makes sense that Microsoft is following the trend. But it is the fact that Edge straddles Windows 10 on the desktop and Windows 10 Mobile that makes this a particularly interesting move.

Keep an eye out for Insider builds in the coming weeks as the feature may be just around the corner."
