  1. Turn 'Word Wrap' off default in Notepad

My PC has recently updated, and with it a new version of Notepad has shown up this is the first time I've seen tabs in a notepad.Frustratingly, Word Wrap is now ticked on by default whenever a notepad is opened. I don't want it on, ever. I have no idea how to set it so that Word Wrap is unticked by default. I've tried opening an existing note I have saved, unticking the Word Wrap option under the View section, then saving the note. When I go back in it is again defaulting to Word Wrap. This has thrown all of my saved work off and it's going to be frustrating as hell if I need to go in and man

    :)

Notepad on Windows 10 incorrectly word wraps

    Hi,

I've noticed and got more and more pissed of by a slight modification to the classic and simple Notepad application.

If one enables Word Wrap, it should wrap the text at word boundaries. It was fine on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7: text was wrapped at white spaces: space and tabulator.

However, in Windows 10, recently, this behaviour has changed. Now the text is wrapped in the middle of the words, at random.

Any fixes or workarounds for this annoyance?

    Notepad in Windows 10

    Hi Stephanie,

Status Bar on Notepad may be disabled or grayed out because the Word Wrap options under Format is turned on. To enable Status Bar, you need to uncheck the Word Wrap option first. That is how the Notepad has been programmed. Kindly follow the steps below:

    • Click Format.
    • Uncheck Word Wrap option.
    • Click View again and you'll see that it is already enabled.

If you wish the Status Bar to be always enabled, you may do it by editing your device registry settings. However,
before editing the registry, we suggest backing up the default settings first to make sure that if any issue arises, you can simply go back to your previous settings. To set up a backup, please click

    here
. Follow the steps below to enable Status Bar:

    • Press Windows + R.
    • Type Regedit and press Enter.
    • Navigate to the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Notepad.
    • Change the StatusBar DWORD value from 0 to 1.

Turn 'Word Wrap' off default in Notepad [IMG]

    • Press F5 to refresh the Registry.
    • You can now open Notepad and you'll see that Status Bar is enabled.

Let us know how it goes.

Turn 'Word Wrap' off default in Notepad

Setting 'Word Wrap' on as the default in 'Notepad' under Windows 10

I finally upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 yesterday and fully expected some really minor difficulties. Here's my first one:

Can anyone please tell me if it is possible to use 'Notepad' with 'Word Wrap' set to 'on' as a default (rather than have to set it 'on' each time I load it)?

I have found several answers to the same question for Windows 7 (e.g.
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_programs/notepad-set-wordwrap-as-default/84280495-fdfd-44e8-8952-036c79e2b5f9
) but does this work on Windows 10 also?

[Just as a matter of interest, can anyone also tell me why, when asking this question, there is a topic of 'Programs' for Windows 7 but not for Windows 10 - is the concept of 'Programs' not applicable in the latter or something?

Just in case either of the two questions above are a bit 'dumb', let me stress that they are both genuine questions - whilst lots of people are, I'm not yet familiar with Windows 10.

    Thank you and best regards
