Windows 10: Turned on Guest account. Deleted it like an idiot. Can't get it back now

A few days ago, I created a Guest account. It was shockingly easy.


Some older advice I found on the web said I would have to fool around in the guts of the OS. BUT, in the OS on this fairly new machine, they must have updated Windows to offer it again. It was great. I used it.


I am NOT insane or computer illiterate. I know what I did and I know what I saw and it was real.


Like an idiot, I intentionally deleted it last night while trying to troubleshoot something else.


Now, I want to put it back and my only options are adding a "Family member" or "Someone Else". Both of these require a "Microsoft Account". I know that's a real thing I have one, but I want the nice, simple, no-password Guest account I put in last week.


Of course, I can't Google up any relevant advice on this issue now. I also can't find a version number for this version of Windows 10 to provide full info in this question. Sigh.

Corrupted "guest" account cannot be deleted

After upgrading to Windows 10 I wanted to install a guest account for visitors. I could not find a way to turn on the built in guest account (this version of 10 does not have a group policy editor so maybe it doesn't exist). In any event, I setup a new
user and named it "Guest." Unfortunately, the user file appears to be corrupt since when you log in the system freezes and the only way out is to ctrl-alt-delete and restart. I created another account labeled "Visitor" and that account works fine.

Back in my admin account (where I created the "guest" account) when I go into the account settings I cannot see "guest" account to delete it. When I sign out it is still available to log in to (and thus freeze the PC) but I can't get to it in settings to
delete it. It is such an obvious account for an unwary guest to click on that I would like to remove it.

Any suggestions?

 

How to remove Guest account?


Try these steps and you should be able to delete the guest account:

1. Press the WIN + X keys and select "Command Prompt (Admin)" from the Quick Access menu.
2. At the Command Prompt, run this command: Code:
   
   Code:

   net user Guest /del

As you are facing an issue in deleting Guest account, I suggest you to login with safe mode and then try to delete the account and check.

Step 1: Start your PC in safe mode in Windows 10

• Right click on Start and click on Control Panel.
• Select User account.
• Click on Manage another account.
• Select Guest account and click on Delete account.
