Turning DPC watchdog bugcheck OFF completely or increasing DPC time allotment (in ticks)

    Hi,

I have an old PC so some of the drivers that do not work very well with the latest Windows 2004 get me random DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION 0x133 bugcheck errors during waking up from hibernation since they are very slow in the new OS. And those drivers are as "new" as possible and they are never going to be updated any more, obviously.

The default threshold for DPC time allotment in ticks in 500, which converts to 20 seconds. My drivers manage to start within this period most of the time (yes, I know it is super slow but I do not care since I restart PC very rarely and I do not need an instant wake up from hibernation), but in other cases, they require a bit longer than twenty seconds which gives me this BSOD.

DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION (133) The DPC watchdog detected a prolonged run time at an IRQL of DISPATCH_LEVEL or above. Arguments: Arg1: 0000000000000000, A single DPC or ISR exceeded its time allotment. The offending component can usually be identified with a stack trace. Arg2: 0000000000000501, The DPC time count (in ticks). Arg3: 0000000000000500, The DPC time allotment (in ticks). Arg4: fffff803724fa320, cast to nt!DPC_WATCHDOG_GLOBAL_TRIAGE_BLOCK, which contains additional information regarding this single DPC timeout

    So my questions are:

    1. where are settings for this "500" ticks threshold in Registry Editor so I could just edit it to a bit bigger value to never see this pointless BSOD again?

    2. or, if there is no entry for those five hundred ticks to edit, then how can I turn the damn watchdog off for real altogether? Microsoft has an article for that but only for the case of a display driver, not in general: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/wi...-watchdog-timer-while-testing-display-drivers

    Thanks in advance.

  3. Diagnose DPC watchdog violation from minidump

Analyzing the dmp with Windbg.exe, shows that the nVIDIA storage driver causes the crash:

So Firefox triggered a disk IO and the nVIDIA driver took to long to proceed a DPC and Windows triggered the crash to prevent a hanging Windows.

Look for a driver update and check if this fixes it.
