  1. Turning on HDR turns everything dark/dim including HDR content. HP OMEN Laptop 15-ek0024TX

Whenever I turn HDR on everything turns dark. The HDR content is slightly brighter but it doesn't reach the full brightness supported by my laptop. My laptop supports 400 Nits of brightness. My android phone OnePlus 6T also supports HDR and around 400 Nits brightness . But my OnePlus play HDR content so much brighter like Netflix, Youtube. My PC never reaches the brightness in HDR mode that it reaches in regular mode. Even Netflix HDR is darker with HDR mode on than HDR mode off.

The HDR content that works properly is the one that can play HDR without turning the HDR button On. Netflix can play HDR without turning HDR on from windows settings and it runs very bright but when you turn off HDR the same looks dark/dim.

My laptop is the new HP Omen 15 2020 OMEN Laptop 15-ek0024TX HP Online Store.

    :)

  2. "HDR and advanced color" setting automatically switches back to "Off" when turned "On".

The implementation of HDR isn't very good. Windows 10 doesn't use dynamic HDR switching, so if you toggle it on, that means SDR content will have HDR applied to it (like the desktop). This means your desktop will look dim, washed out and text will have
artifacts around it, even though the color space is 10-bit YCC422. Microsoft needs to either have HDR switch dynamically to content that uses HDR, or have some sort of conversion that applies 10-bit YCC422 rec. 2020 color space to the 709 color space, so
the desktop and SDR content looks normal.

You can reduce the resolution to 4k@30 hz which might help the text artifacts, but it won't help the dim and washed out colors for SDR content (like your desktop).

Most people turn the HDR toggle off and only turn it on when they are going to play a game or watch content that's HDR enabled.

Turning on HDR turns everything dark/dim including HDR content. HP OMEN Laptop 15-ek0024TX

HDR on HDR monitor causes issue on secondary, non-HDR monitor

I have an Aorus AD27QD (HDR) monitor as my primary display and an ultrawide 34UM88-P (Non-HDR) as my secondary. If HDR is enabled in windows and I go to a full screen video on the non-HDR monitor after a few seconds it will flicker blue then become severely
washed out. Coming out of full screen fixes this. If HDR is not enabled full screen shows the colors perfectly normally.

Secondarily, with windows HDR on on the Aorus, the colors dim pretty drastically. HDR content great but anything that isnt HDR is dim enough to make me question if my brightness is turned down. (Its not, its 90/100). The white of a plain browser window
seems so dim its nearly grey. I also tested this on what I know is a particularly vibrant (non-HDR) . HDR on? Terrible and muted. HDR off? Bright and vibrant.

I have played with in-monitor settings, nvidia control panel, factory reset of monitor, basically everything I can think of. Everything points to it being a windows issue.

I also tried out the suggestions from this post. And it pointed me to this
    set of OS release notes
which didnt solve my issue either.

I could really use some help because I am really feeling like I wasted my money on this monitor.

    PC:

    i5 7600k

    GTX 1080ti

    16GB 3000Hz Corsair RAM

Windows, CPU and GPU on latest drivers available.

    Monitors:

    LG 34UM88-P (HDMI)

    Aorus AD27QD (DisplayPort)
