  1. Turning on PIP on display, causes explore.exe to crash

When I was testing out the PIP function on my display, it caused the taskbar on my second display to disappear, and all my windows being tossed over to my third display. All three displays are attached to my GPU via DP cable. The PIP function I was testing out on my display is on, what windows deemed as my main display. Windows does not like the PIP or something with the HCDP could of caused it? I hope this is in the right topic.

    :)

Windows 10 scaling display causing explorer crashes

    Thanks for your response!

Something changed now, the explorer can be started, but starting the control panel still causes an explorer restart.

I am running the 1511 build (no tech preview edition) with all updates installed. The laptop itself has 2560x1440 display and I connected recently a 1920×1080 external screen. Tested this now again:

    • When the secondory display is connected, I can start the explorer, but not the Control Panel, but Explorer does not restart
    • Without the secondy display, I can start the explorer, but when I start the Control Panel, the explorer crashes.

    all games crash!

    I suggest you run rthdribl > http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/archives/rthdribl_1_2.zip
Increase the window size step by step and watch your vga temps permanently.
    What happens?
If it crashes, run at stock speeds as suggested before and retry.

P.S.: When your system locks, does the display signal turn off after a time?
Stuttering sound or no sound at all when freezing?
What X1800XT model do you own exactly?

Windows 10 scaling display causing explorer crashes

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. I understand your concern and I am glad to assist you.

    Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

This can also occur if you had recently connected a 4K display and was attempting to run at 175% scaling on that display.

Which Build are you currently in?

I would suggest you to check your PC for updates and download the latest builds as there was already a fix for this in Build 14251.

    • We fixed an issue where File Explorer would crash frequently when DPI settings were at 175%.
    • We fixed the issue where some PC games would crash switching from windowed mode to full screen, upon game resolution change, or upon launch due to a bug in Windows graphics stack. So play your games! If you run into any issues – please let us know by reporting
in the Feedback app and include the game title.
    • We fixed the issue where applications such as Narrator, Magnifier, and third-party assistive technologies may experience intermittent issues or crashes.
Hope this post helps. Get back to us for further queries. We are happy to help!
