    Turning On Windows Defender in Windows 8.1


    Good morning,


    I just installed a new version of Office 365. When I checked my Windows Defender, it stated: To allow the app to run contact your administrator to enable the program via group policy. I am the administrator and was logged in as such. When I get the screen that allows me to turn on or off Windows Defender, the indicator is grey and will not allow me to turn it on. Can someone please advise what I need to do?

    Turning On Windows Defender in Windows 8.1

    According to Windows Defender DDU has Malware in it.

    Add DDU to the exclusion list either from there or the settings for Defender. Then you'll be fine. I've used DDU for years, and as-long-as you downloaded it from a reputable source you should be fine. If they offer MD5 hash checks that might be worth doing to make sure though if you're concerned your version is malicious.
