  1. Turning tapping off touchpad after windows 10 update on 6/30/19

This has just been awful. There was some automatic update that happened and now I can't turn tapping off on my touchpad. I've spent hours looking for and trying to fix this. The solutions tell you where to look but it's not possible. It says if the option to turn tapping off isn't available then you don't have tapping capability which is not the case. HELP!!! I turned tapping off when I first purchased my laptop and now I can't turn it off...can not find where to turn it off ANYWHERE! I have been out of the country and no more time to deal with this but it is driving me crazy. I hate tapping and want it turned off. How can I do this????!!! Really hope I can get a SOLUTION!!!

    :)

  2. How do I disable Tapping on my Windows 10 Touchpad

    Hi Ashley,

For you to turn off the tap-to-click feature on your Windows 10 touchpad, we recommend trying the steps below:

    • Go to Settings.
    • Click on Personalization, then Themes.
    • Select Mouse pointer settings.
    • Then, click on the last tab called Device settings (might be different from other computers) and again on Settings.
    • A new window will pop-up with the Pointer options. Just uncheck Tapping.

Let us know if that worked out for you.

    Touchpad: Tap twice to drag

    Here's how it works standardly:

    1. Tap twice
    2. Hold down on the second tap
    3. Move around and you're dragging
    4. Release finger to stop dragging

Here's what I like it to do:

    1. Tap twice
    2. Hold down on the second tap
    3. Move around and you're dragging
    4. Release finger
    5. Reposition finger and continue dragging by flicking the touchpad some more
    6. (repeat steps 4 & 5 as many times as desired)
    7. Release finger and perform one addditional tap to stop dragging

That's what it used to be like in the Windows 7 era with most touchpads. Some people found it annoying and disabled it, but I welcomed it.

I know dragging continues when your finger reaches the touchpad edges, but that I find greatly irritating because it looses all sense of precision. This mechanism is stupendously irritating when trying to pixel-precise drag a trackbar, or when doing some
painting in photoshop on the go. Or just anything that requires precision.

So I'd like to disable "drag continues at touchpad edge" and enable "require additional tap to stop dragging".

So how can I do that?

If not possible, then please consider this a feature request.

    touchpad doesn't work

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community, we appreciate your interest in Windows 10.

As you are unable to access touchpad after upgrade to Windows 10, this issue might be due to the outdated touchpad drivers on Windows 10.

I suggest you to use the external mouse and check if it is working and try the below.

    Step 1:

    • Press Windows + X keys from the keyboard and click on
      Control Panel.
    • Click on Mouse.
    • On the Device Settings tab of the
Mouse Properties screen, check the Disable button to turn off the Touchpad.
    • Restart the system and later enable it and check it you are able to access touchpad.

Step 2: Update the synaptic drivers

    Steps:

    • Right click on Windows key from the desktop and click on
      Device Manager.
    • Expand Mice and other pointing devices, right click on the
Touch screen driver (Synaptic driver) and select Update Driver Software.

Also, I suggest you to contact the manufacturer's website and install all the drivers on your device.

You can install Windows 8/8.1 drivers in compatibility mode if there are no Windows 10 compatible drivers.

Follow the steps to install in Compatibility mode:

    • Download the updated driver from the manufacturer’s website.
    • Right click the driver installation file and select
Properties then tap or click the Compatibility tab.
    • Place a check in the Run this program in compatibility mode for: box.
    • Tap the drop down box and select a previous operating system, then tap or click
      OK.
    • Try installing the driver and check.

Hope it helps. Kindly let us know if you need further assistance with Windows Operating System. We will be glad to assist you.
