Windows 10: Turning USB Flash Drive/External SSD into boot drive with Windows 10

Hi Guys.

I have a bit of a dilemma on my hand and I need help!

First, background: I currently use a laptop computer at work but am thinking of migrating to a desktop because I just like the performance much better, that being said I still have use for my laptop since a few times every month I have to go out in the field.

Info required: I want to know if I can make a highspeed flash drive into a Windows 10 boot drive which I can just keep plugged into my desktop's high speed USB port and boot from it, and when I need to use my laptop I will just plug it into my laptop and use the same windows installation on that machine.

Questions:
1) Is it possible to install Windows on a flash drive just like we install windows on a hdd/ssd?
2) Can I swap the drive and run the same windows installation on different machines when needed? (I think Windows 10 is plug and play, and it installs/configures some drivers when harddrive is plugged into different computer but it works afterwards, need to confirm this).
3) If the above 2 are possible, then how about the speed? Will a flash drive be able to keep up with the speed of a SSD? Also, Can I install windows on an external SSD just like a flash drive which should be much faster than a regular flash?
4) Suggest me specifications of the Flash drive or external hardware, whichever I need.

Any other tips are more than welcome.

Yeah, suggest a racebike when someone ask for a bicycle. Just... no. USB flash drive means USB flash drive.

Extract ISO onto the USB flash drive.

Motherboard bios set to boot from usb drive.

Then install.

The video above shows that, and the boot, shut down speeds with a G Skull 64GB SSD drive in Windows 7 7000 Beta 1 x64.

 

help. USB drive isn't assigned a drive letter.

Any usb flash drive I plug into my computer isn't assigned a drive letter. The physical drive shows in the "safely remove hardware" but it doesnt show up in disk management. I have tried to populate the volume thru the safely remove hardware properties window and it does pop up in the list but it doesn't stay there. This isn't a format or assign a letter problem. It's more complicated then that. Maybe one of the services needed for usb drive management was disabled? Suggestions needed. btw external usb harddrives work fine.
