Windows 10: Two drives show after replacing hybrid SSD/HDD with a single SSD

I recently encountered a SMART failure predicted for my 1 TB hard drive that was part of a 256MB SSD and 1TB HDD hybrid in my HP Pavillion laptop. After doing some verification to confirm it was indeed a hard drive issue, I ended up ordering a replacement 1TB SSD and using the Samsung magician tool to clone my data from both my SSD and my hard drive to this new SSD. While this replacement was successful and did boot, I noticed that the disk manager reported there being two different drives, one with the name of the old 256 SSD and one with the new name and 1TB space. Must be some laptop. Looks like your Intel Optane is a Hybrid SSD/HDD and you have just under 1TB of storage on that beauty.

They still use the word 'disk' and 'standard disk drive' in reference to any form of storage be that SSD, HDD, or Hybrid drive

in System Information. MS may catch up one day

You may check drive's model in Task manager. Open Performance tab, select drive at the left and you'll see its model in the top right corner.

Likely HDD was listed as SSD due to its internal organization. I suppose this is WD drive with SMR technology and it supports TRIM. Please run command prompt as administrator and show a result of

fsutil fsinfo sectorinfo d:

command.

No, drive identification as SSD or HDD in Windows should have no influence to drive's performance.

You may check SSD with manufacturer's tool and HDD with third party CrystalDiskInfo tool.

And please show Performance tab of Task manager with SSD selected and HDD selected when you see slowness.

I don't understand why you changed the boot order in your BIOS.

When you image or clone an HDD, and restore the image or clone to an SSD, you've got an identical copy of your computer on a different hard drive. Nothing has changed, really. So the next step is to remove the HDD from your computer and replace it with the
SSD, then carry on as normal.
