Windows 10: Two Dynamic disks from a broken mirror one failed one good - then they switched.

I had a mirrored disk and the mirror broke, I did not fix it and then had two separate dynamic drives. Recently the power went out and the "Boot" drive was not recognized. In disk management it showed as missing simple volume.

I loaded the OS to "Boot Mirror" and looked at various evaluation partition/file recovery programs and ran some on boot.


At some point, the disks reversed and "Boot" was good and "Boot Mirror" showed up failed.

I know there is metadata date on dynamic disks and suspect the problem lies with that.

However, fixing this is beyond my level of expertise. Any help greatly appreciated.

Op[tions for a failed dynamic disk

One of my raid 1 drives failed and I removed it. the remining drive is functioning well (have 3 TB of data used; OS is on a separated drive; all data are backed up in multiple splaces).

1. Is there any disadvantage to leaving the dynamic disk as is even though there is no corresponding mirrored drive?
2. Can i replace my failed raid drive and establish it as a dynamic drive to work with the other dynamic one without having to remove the partitions on the still functional dynamic drive and start again?
3. if i have to "start from scratch" would it be more effective to set up Windows 10 storage drives instead of RAID1?

 

Disk mirror failed redundancy: Remove mirror or reactivate volume?

The cause for Failed Redundancy would be that half, but not both halves, of a mirrored volume was imported. In Disk Management, the imported half of the mirrored volume receives Failed Redundancy status, while the disk that holds the
half of the mirror that was not imported receives Missing status. You can import the Missing disk at a later time to restore redundancy.



The solution for Failed Redundancy is to move all disks that span this volume to the new computer at the same time, and then import all of the disks together.

If you right click the Pen Drive do you get either of the options, 'Break Mirrored Volume' or 'Remove Mirror'?

To break a mirrored set, follow these steps:

• In Disk Management, right-click one of the drives in the mirrored set, and then choose Break Mirrored Volume.
• Confirm that you want to break the mirrored set by clicking Yes.
• If the volume is currently in use, you'll see another warning dialog box. Confirm that it's okay to continue by clicking Yes.

To remove a mirror, follow these steps:

• In Disk Management, right-click one of the volumes in the mirrored set, and then choose Remove Mirror
• In the Remove Mirror dialog, select the disk from which to remove the mirror.
  
• If the mirror contains a boot or system volume, you should remove the mirror from the secondary drive rather than the primary. For example, if Drive 0 and Drive 1 are mirrored, remove Drive 1 rather than Drive 0
• Confirm the action when prompted. All data on the removed mirror is deleted.
