Windows 10: UAC Prompt fails with a dark screen after user/pass is entered

On many of my domain joined PC's.Users operate under domain user accounts.When I try to elevate something using UAC it fails.The UAC prompt box will appear, take my username and password, and then the screen stays as a muted darkened version of my blank wallpaper.The PC will sit like this for a few minutes and then go back to the desktop without the elevated permission ever happening.If I press Ctrl-Alt-Del and just cancel out of the task manager I can get the PP to operate again but the permission elevation dose not happen.SFC and resetting the catroot2 folder are the 2 actionable items I hav

I would suggest you to login to the built-in admin account and check:

1. Click on Start icon and select Command Prompt run as administrator
there.

2. Accept the UAC prompt.

3. Enter the following command to enable the hidden administrator account:
net user administrator /active:yes

Note: To disable the account follow the instructions : net user administrator /active:no

If you can log into the Default Administrator account, follow these steps to perform System Restore:

a. On the desktop, press Windows key + R to open a Run Dialog.

b. Type %systemroot%\system32\rstrui.exe.

c. Press Enter and select a restore point before the account got deleted.

If issue persists, also try this:

Try to save the password in credential manager and check. Refer to the steps below:

• Press Windows key + X.
• Click on Control Panel.
• Click on "Credential Manager" and select "Windows Credentials".
• Go down to "Generic Credentials" and select "MicrosoftAccount:user=<user_name>" (where <user_name> should be your user name).
• Click "Edit" and Change the password and press "Save".
• Check if issue persists.

Problem with UAC in win 10

To disable UAC prompts, I suggest you to follow the steps provided below:

• In the search bar, type Control Panel and press Enter.
• Click on User Accounts and again click on User Accounts.
• Click on Change User account control settings.
• Provide password for the UAC prompt.
• Drag the box from Always Notify to Never Notify and click on OK.
• Provide password for the UAC prompt (if asked again).

Important: Turning off UAC reduces the security of your computer and may expose you to increased risk from malicious software. We do not recommend leaving UAC disabled.

Hi Microsoft!

Something strange has happened to the UAC prompts on my PC.

As you can see in the screenshot, the UAC prompt is asking me to enter a password BUT there is no other account on the PC.





Can you PLEASE help me?

UAC prompts are disabled.

And there is no option to add another user to the PC.
