Hi, I bought my laptop with Win10 pre-installed but then I decided to remove it to install Ubuntu and then have my windows 10 running from a virtual machine (Virtualbox). Before removing original pre-installed W10, I downloaded the ISO file.

After intalling ubuntu, I installed my Win10 in Virtualbox using the ISO file that I had. All good at that time. I was able to activate it using my digital license. However all of sudden, one day I saw my Win10 license was no longer active. Since then i
could not activate anymore. In my windows account I have my license but I cannot activate. Please help!. Thanks

 

Booting legit windows10 instance from my virtualBox on ubuntu

Just to be clear. Reviewing your OP and your further response it seems you have installed Windows 10 on a second partition to Ubuntu on your hard drive, you call the partitions U1 and W1. When you boot your PC you select U1 or W1 to boot either Ubuntu or
Windows, is that correct.

In Ubuntu you have installed Oracle VirtualBox and created a virtual machine and virtual hard drive and installed Windows 10. Is that correct.

1) Windows 10 installed on partition W1 is activated.

2) Windows 10 running on the virtual hard drive in VirtualBox is not activated.

1) is activated against your physical hardware using your licence key.

2) Is not activated because the virtual hardware is seen as a different device (as far as Windows 10 activation is concerned) and needs it's own licence.

Even if Windows 10 is installed on a virtual machine in the Windows 10 partition it will still need its own licence and cannot use the same licence as the windows install on W1.
