Windows 10: Ubuntu reFIND corrupted windows

My brother dual booted his acer pc, he had windows and Ubuntu. He installed reFIND on Ubuntu, but when he tried booting into windows using reFIND. It showed the windows logo instead of acer and it stayed on a black screen. When he booted of windows boot manager, Blue Screen of death BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO. Then Recovery error code 0xc0000001, I think. Please help resolve this.Before you say to runbootrec /fixbootbootrec /fixmbrbootrec /scanosbootrec /rebuildbcdI ran all of them and for bootrec /rebuildbcd It said access denied and I tried taking ownership but still access denied and bootr

rEFInd won't load at boot time

I successfully installed rEFInd in Windows 10 in my IdeaPad Flex 5. But it won't work in my desktop pc also with Windows 10. Both devices dual-boot with Pop! OS.
I disabled Fast Boot in my desktop just in case to no avail. I believe Secure Boot is also disabled.
I am able to call the UEFI menu, but rEFInd won't succeed to load.

I just checked and the refind.config file is inside the S:EFI/refind/refind

I can't recall where I've got these instructions to install it in Windows, but these are the steps:

1. Get rEFInd.
2. Expand the ZIP file, and copy the resulting folder to C:
3. Open Command Prompt Admin
4. Enter command line: Mountvol S: /S
5. In the same terminal move two levels up to C: (cd..)
6. xcopy /E refind-bin-0.13.2 S:\efi\refind\
7. S:
8. cd EFI\refind\refind
9. rename refind.conf-sample
   Enter command line: refind.conf-sample refind.config
10. Enter command line:
    bcdedit /set {bootmgr} path\EFI\refind\refind\refind_x64.efi
11. Done!

Like I said, that's exactly what I did before for the laptop, and other desktop pc without a problem. This desktop pc still does have the necessary files in the right place, and still won't work.

Additionally, I just opened bcdedit in the Command Prompt Terminal and it does show that the REFIND_X64.EFI file is in its correct path: \EFI\REFIND\REFIND\

Windows 10 is not found after installing rEFInd (boot manager)






I am setting a dual boot with W10 and Linux Mint.
These are the steps I followed:
1. I had W10 installed in the HD.
2. I added a SSD, and unplugged the HD (with W10)
3. I installed LM in the SSD.
4. Plugged back the HD.
5. Booted up. W10 loaded.
6. I installed rEFInd in the S drive (where the EFI directory is located).
7. I get this error you see in the image.

In the BIOS, Windows Manager was setup to be the first boot. Ubuntu as the 2nd (Linux Mint shows as Ubuntu here).
After that error, I swapped them up. So now Ubuntu was the first boot.
This allowed me to load LM.
I just installed rEFInd via the PPA in LM as adviced in the rEFInd instructions. Hopefully this will do the trick.
I'll reboot now... wish me luck!

It worked!
From now on, I'll just install rEFInd via the PPA in LM.

Multiboot Win8.1, Win10 and Kubuntu using rEFInd

Hello, everyone. I would like to install Win8.1 (80GB) + Win10 (300GB) + Kubuntu (100GB), all in the same drive and using rEFInd as boot manager. I read a lot about diskpart, DISM and rEFInd but I'm still not confident to perform the installation. Can someone describe the step by step to deploy this setup using diskpart and DISM? Thanks in advance.
