UEFI BIOS settings to prepare for Windows 10 Installation

Is it advisable to set the UEFI BIOS (Asus ROG Hero Maximus VI motherboard) to a factory default settings before installing Windows 10? Or should I at least set the memory "XMP" profile?

    Thanks!

    :)

  2. Windows 10 Upgrade Failure From Windows 7 Pro 64bit 0xC1900101 - 0x20017

Do you have a UEFI BIOS for certain? If you're unsure I'd format the stick using

    Media Creation Tool
since it is the only tool that can prepare it for both UEFI and Legacy formats at the same time. Then when you boot stick via

    BIOS Boot Menu Key
look for a UEFI flash stick listing, choose it, then Custom Install, then delete all partitions down to Unallocated Space to reset format.

How are you installing Windows 7? Do you choose it's media as a UEFI Device? If not then you either don't have a UEFI BIOS or it is set to CSM or Legacy in UEFI Firmware. The Windows 10 install should proceed the same if you correctly format the media
    using MCT.

There is more here for getting and keeping the best possible
    Clean Install Windows 10 Upgrade.

  3. BIOS SETTING

I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

Why are you wanting to set the UEFI firmware to Legacy or CSM? This is not recommended as it abandons all of the new security and other improvements in the UEFI BIOS to run it as an older BIOS for no good reason. It is NOT a good reason to use Legacy BIOS just
because you don't know how to install Windows to UEFI.

To install or repair Windows in UEFI mode you must boot the media as a UEFI device in the Boot Menu using it's hotkey and not setting it first in Boot Priority order. The Windows Boot Manager must remain first in Boot Priority Order. The media must also be
prepared using only the Media Creation Tool to know it's UEFI capable.

To change from Legacy <> UEFI BIOS one must also clear the formatting on the hard drive from /to MBR <> GPT. This is done by deleting all partitions down to Unallocated Space during install to clear the formatting. It will not work otherwise.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

UEFI BIOS settings to prepare for Windows 10 Installation

    Hello Greg, *Smile

The only UEFI firmware settings that I would recommend to temporarily change until Windows 10 installation is complete is:

Disable Fast Boot to make it easier to be able to boot from a USB. When Fast Boot is enabled, you don't have time to be able to press the Boot Menu key to select to boot from a USB.

Disable Secure Boot. Some motherboards do not support booting from a USB while secure boot is enabled.
