  1. Unable change policies in my PC from registry editor.

A few days ago I changed some policies related to my browser and also changed my permissions to access the policies key in the registry editor Regedit. I made the Authenticated User permission from Full Control to Read only after which permission access was showing to only SYSTEM with Full Control and all others as Read Only. Now I can't even change those permissions and am unable to change my Ownership. whenever I do so it shows "Unable to save permission changes on Policies, Access denied"

    :)

group policy editor VS registry settings

ALL settings are applied through the registry. The Group Policy Editor is just a GUI with a set of templates containing the registry settings required.

Microsoft publish this spreadsheet listing all the policies and the registry settings they use.

Question About Group Policy Editor and Registry

Normally the keys are already present, and the GP editor changes their values.
However I can't defintively say how that works in an attempt to add the GP editor to Home as I've not looked.

    Otherwise yes, sounds reasonable.

Note that Policy Plus, a free program that looks somewhat like the GP Editor is available, and includes a useful search feature. This can be used in Home- however some policies are ineffective in Home. Example:

Note for example that resetting all group policies to Not Configured has no effect where the equivalent registry value has been changed by some other means.
