Windows 10: Unable to access some open windows/apps

When I have multiple windows/apps open and I touch or click the icon on the taskbar, the window appears. BUT as soon as I move the cursor from the taskbar the window closes. Even if I Alt-Tab to the window and see it, it still does not stay open. So right now I have Outlook desktop, Chrome browser, File Explorer, and Evernote open and I can select them. Also running are Lenovo Advantage, a network drive log-in window, and Windows Settings. I am unable to get to those windows. I might eventually get to a window after a dozen manipulations. Alt-Tab sometimes eventually works. Sometimes clicking with the mouse, then using the touchpad gets me to the window. The issue is acute when the inaccessible window all apps! is not full-screen. Until then I can preview but not use the window. This is more than annoying; it is unacceptable. I'm using a 2-week old Thinkpad Carbon X1. All help appreciated.

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it.

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

• Open powershell as administrator
• Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
• Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)

 

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

I did that to no avail, then I ran WSReset.exe; now I'm good on all 3, Mail, Calendar and People! *Confused
Go figure!
