Windows 10: Unable to Access Windows - PIN and Fingerprint Issues

Hello,I am experiencing issues accessing my Windows account due to problems with the PIN and fingerprint login. Here are the steps I followed and the issues encountered:I entered an incorrect PIN several times.I decided to change the PIN. I successfully logged into my account. and attempted to change the PIN, but an error occurred during the process.Now, I am unable to log in using the PIN, and it is blocked for 2 hours.I am offered the option to use fingerprint authentication, but it does not work.I am not given the option to log in using my password or account credentials, even though I lo

Unable to Set Up Pin or Windows Hello Fingerprint

Hi! Thank you for the quick and comprehensive response. Unfortunately, I tried every suggestion you provided, and none of them worked. I believe that there are no issues with the hardware or drivers for the fingerprint sensor, and that all the issues are
coming from Windows refusing to accept that I have actually created a PIN. I went down the list, did everything, even did the Repair Install, which didn't work, then tried deleting the Ngc folder and restarting, which didn't help either. It still only says
"Add" under the options for PIN, and when I go to setup fingerprint sensor, everything works fine up until it tells me that I need to create a PIN to use Hello. I already have created a PIN, and I sign into my computer using it just fine, but it appears that
the settings application does not see that. Any other suggestions?

 

Windows Hello Fingerprint issue

We understand that you are unable to use Windows Hello Fingerprint to sign in to Windows. It would be great if you can reply with the details requested below:

• When you say, “I am not getting the option to log-in into windows using fingerprint.” What login options do you see on the login screen?
  
• What happens when you try to use the Windows Hello Fingerprint scanner to login to Windows?
  
• Were you able to use the Windows Hello Fingerprint to login to Windows earlier?
  

Ideally, on the login screen, you will see Sign-in options that allows you to use different sign-in methods to login to Windows.



As you have mentioned that you are able to use the Fingerprint scanner on websites, I would suggest you to refer the steps mentioned below and see if that helps:

1. On the login screen, click on Sign-in options.
   
2. Click on the Fingerprint icon, scan the Fingerprint, and see if you are able to sign in.

If the issue persists, try removing the Fingerprint and add it again. Refer the steps mentioned below:

1. Press Windows key + I, to open
   Settings.
   
2. Click on Accounts and click on
   Sign-in options on the left pane.
   
3. Now, click on Windows Hello Fingerprint and click on
   Remove.
   
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove the Fingerprint.
   
5. Once done, click on Set up and follow the on-screen instructions to add the Fingerprint.

Unable to setup PIN and Fingerprint after a recent crash

I understand that you are facing issues with enabling Windows Hello PIN and Fingerprint on your PC. I will certainly try my best to assist you with the issue.



For further clarity on the issue, please respond to the questions below:



1. Which build version of Windows 10 are you using currently?

2. Do you receive any error message/code when trying to setup Windows Hello PIN/Fingerprint?

3. What is the make and model of the PC?



Refer the article Which version of Windows operating system am I running?



Meanwhile, I would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and see if that helps.



Regarding Windows Hello PIN:



Try deleting the NGC folder for Windows Hello PIN. You can follow the below steps to delete NGC folder and see if you are able to setup PIN.

1. Press Windows + E to open File Explorer.
2. On the left hand pane click on This PC.
3. Now navigate to the location C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft.
4. Right click on the NGC folder and click on Delete.
5. Click on Yes.

In case you are receiving permission error then try running the command and see if you are able to delete it.

1. Press Windows + S key together to open
   Search.
2. Now type CMD and select Run as administrator.
3. Accept the UAC prompts.
4. Type in the following commands one by one and hit Enter:
   
   icacls C:WindowsServiceProfilesLocalServiceAppDataLocalMicrosoftNgc /T /Q /C /RESET
5. Close the CMD window
6. Try to delete the NGC folder.

Regarding Windows Hello Fingerprint:



Try updating the fingerprint driver on your PC and see if that helps. Refer the section
Update the device driver from the article Update drivers in Windows 10



Note: The fingerprint driver should be under Biometric sensors.



You may also check the manufacturer website and see if there are updated drivers for Chipset and Biometric device.
