Windows 10: Unable to activate Windows after system rebuild

Last week the motherboard in my PC failed and I had to install another. I have been running Windows 10 which I upgraded to from Windows 7 Pro during the free promotion period some time ago. The new motherboard did not support MBR formatted disks or Win7 so I had to reformat and reinstall Windows 10 from scratch. I downloaded a copy of Windows 10 Home I think I may have been using Pro because of the upgrade but not sure. I have the product key from the original Win7 Pro but this does not work and I never had a key for the free upgrade or I lost it. Any advice on how to reactivate my syst

Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild

Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.

 

Unable to restore windows 10

A documentation of the Long Test of Seatools for DOS would have been nice.
If disk corruption exists, the following steps will not work.

• Mark the 449 MB partition as Active. Partition - Mark as Active - Windows 7 Help Forums

• Run Startup Repair for 3 separate times with restarts in between every single run. Startup Repair - Run in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

Unable to display drive data

Hi Sachin,

I suggest that you rebuild the File indexing. Follow the below steps:

• Open Indexing Options by clicking the Start button
• Clicking Control Panel.
• Type indexing options, and then click Indexing Options.
• 
  Click Advanced.
  
• 
  In the Advanced Options dialog box, click the Index Settings tab
  
• 
  Click Rebuild.
  

Check and let us if the steps helped to fix the issue.
