Unable to add keyboard: "Input Method Editor Desktop Only"

I am trying to add this keyboard, but the option is greyed out for some reason. I have tried to remove and reinstall both the language and the input method, but nothing seems to make it work.It was like this when I first installed this input method, but it worked fine and showed up in the Alt+Space menu. Until today it stopped working for some reason and ceased to show up in the Alt+Space menu. I did not update the input method so that couldn't have been the cause. Please advice. Thanks!

    :)

  2. Using the Pinyin Chinese input method with a QWERTZ keyboard.

    Hi Pierre,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

We understand that, you need to type in simplified Chinese with a non QWERTY keyboard on Windows 10 operating system.

    • Did you install Windows 10 Pro edition on your system?

You can try these below steps to know how to add or Remove Keyboard Input Methods using Control Panel:

    1. Go to the control panel and under clock, language and region, select add a language

    2. In add a language window, press add a language button.

    3. Many languages will be provided, please select the one you desire and press add.

    4. Now, in your desktop screen, press Windows key + space and select the input language you desire.

You can also follow the below link to troubleshooting:

  3. Language keyboard input doesn't equal output

    Hi,

Language input may vary depending on the Input method set on your keyboard settings. To sort your concern, we suggest that you check if the desired input is set correctly by following these steps:

    • Type in Language and keyboard options on the search box.
    • Select the desired language that you're trying to set up.
    • Once you've selected the language, select Options.
    • Under Keyboards, select Microsoft IME and click
      Options.
    • Scroll down and select Open advanced settings.
    • A window will pop up. Under General tab, click the drop-down arrow for
Input method and select the desired input.
    • Click OK.

Let us know if you encounter any challenges along the process.

  4. Unable to add keyboard: "Input Method Editor Desktop Only"

How can I use the Japanese IME (Input Method Editor) with a non-English keyboard?

The Japanese IME (Input Method Editor) for Windows 10 appears to only offer the option of selecting the Standard English or Standard Japanese keyboard layouts. This is a big problem for users of non-English (and non-Japanese) keyboards since many keys (such
as z and y, dashes and brackets etc) are then in the wrong place, i.e. the character interpreted by the IME does not correspond to the character shown on and typed in with the keyboard.

Many international users of this forum have asked the same question
(many in German) over the years - yet I am unable to find a fix that works for Windows 10. (Use of the on-screen keyboard with a mouse is not really satisfactory for efficient typing)
