unable to add new devices printers/scanners/bluetooth etc

Hi, ever since upgrading to windows 11, I've been unable to add new devices to my system.Directly plugged in USB devices being the exception. Keyboards, mice etc work fine.Anything that requires the use of the "add device" button causes the settings screen to hang. This includes ALL bluetooth and network devices and has become a major problem as I cant add bluetooth headsets or connect to my new network printer. Existing devices that were carried over from windows 10 continue to work, but if uninstalled, become impossible to reinstall. I have already tried replacing my bluetooth dongle but it

    :)

  2. Windows 10 recognizes my printer+scanner only as a printer.

    Hello,

Another method you may try is to uninstall and reinstall the printer. The following are the steps:

    Remove your printer

    • Select the Start button, then select Settings > Devices > Printers and Scanners.
    • Under Printers & scanners, find the printer, select it, and then select Remove device.

Install or add a local printer

    • Select the Start button, then select Settings > Devices > Printers and Scanners.
    • Under Printers & Scanners, see if your printer is installed.
    • If you don’t see your device, select Add a printer or scanner. Wait for it to find available printers, choose the one you want, and then select Add device.

On the other hand, we suggest also that you reach out the manufacturer of your printer/scanner for the driver availability or work around.

    Regards.

    Change Scanner Name.

    Hello @dalchina,

Even when I looked through the files in the installation folder and the Original CD folder. . .

    • DPInst - XML Document
    • hpusbscn.sys - System File
    • hpxp3800 - Setup Information
. . . I couldn't find that exact wording and case, but, I might have another look at those. This does lead me to believe [ like you suggested ] that it is somehow collated rather than set as a constant for example.

It is obviously held on the OS somewhere for it to show, but the trick is, where and how to change it. I know it is only aesthetics [ and my OCD ] because it works, but it would be nice to get to the bottom of it.

Further information that I have discovered is that because it is classed and shown as a Device, it appears in the Devices section of Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & Other Devices as well as the Printers & Scanners section.

When the Scanner USB is disconnected it disappears from the Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & Other Devices section, but is obviously left in the Printers & Scanners section. So this proves that the Scanner Name is extracted from wherever the Scanner Name is extracted from in the Printers & Scanners section.

There has got to be an entry that can be changed somewhere surely, or am I being silly!
