Windows 10: unable to burn cds as it just tells me the drive is in use - i have never used this drive...

every time i try to burn a cd it gives me the message“Windows Media Player Legacy cannot burn to the disc because the drive is in use. Wait a few minutes for other burning tasks to complete and then try again.

Unable to burn CDs

Hi,

I've been burning CDs for use in my car for quite some time with no issues.

Today I got a new batch of blank CDs (Verbatim CD-RW 12x, I had previously used a different brand with a different speed) and the first CD burned just fine, but after that my CD drive (ASUS BW-12B1LT) is unable to burn anything, from Windows Media Player
I get 'Windows Media Player encountered a problem while burning the file to the disc' and from Music Bee I get 'This device does not support the operations required by this disc format'. I've disabled and re-enabled the CD drive with a restart, uninstalled
and reinstalled the drivers for the CD drive again with a restart and I am still having the exact same issue.

I also got the 'directory name is invalid' error on inserting a different disc, but the aforementioned steps fixed this.

The sata and power cables for the drive are totally fine as far as I can tell.
