Windows 10: Unable to change folder Optimization for file types

I have a folder that shows columns for music type files. I select properties - customize - optimize this folder for documents - OK, but nothing changes. If I change the name of the folder I am able to optimize for various types but if I change the name of the folder back to the original name, it reverts to optimized for music types and I can't change it.I am running Windows 10 Home, version 21H1, OS build 19043.1110

Can I switch off folder type optimization? I am willing to view all files and folders as a detailed list in file browser, but this feature keeps changing my preferences.

• Were there any changes made on the computer prior to the issue?
• Is the issue happening on the same folder or different folders?

I would suggest you to follow these steps and check if it helps:

1. Press CTL + ALT + DEL keys.

2. Click on Task Manager.

3. In the Processes tab, right click on Windows Explorer.

4. Click on End Task.

5. In the Task manager, click on File.

6. Click on Run new task.

7. Type “explorer.exe” without quotes and press Enter.

Change Folder View Layout in Windows 10

Did you download and run Brink's .bat file in Step 1 ? Lacking that, look at the screens in post 3. In Step 5 'folders of this type' defaults to each of the Windows templates for Pictures, Music, etc. If you want ALL folders to have the same List view, r-click any folder in each of the 5 folders under This PC (Desktop does not apply) and hit 'Customize this folder'. Set to 'Optimize this folder for General Items". Then follow the screen in post 3 using List instead of Details in Step 1 and you should be good to go.
