Windows 10: Unable to change icons into thumbnail previews

I have researched the heck out of this and I am having trouble with my picture files. I am only showing icons and not thumbnails and want to turn them back.


I have unchecked 'always show icons instead of thumbnails', I have performed cmd prompt directions as I have seen online and I have changed visual effects. I have cleared the thumbnail cache and restarted the pc. However I cannot get the thumbnail feature to return.


My Windows 10 is up to date and any help of any sort would be greatly appreciated. I have no other ideas. Thanks in advance.

Change File Type Icon in Thumbnail Preview


I use Google SketchUp a lot and each new model/file I create, SketchUp makes a .skb back up file of the last save. I was able to create a subkey in the registry to associate a different icon file for the .skb files but it does not change the icon if the folder view is set to medium, large, or extra large icons and gives a thumbnail preview of the file contents.

Examples of the same files in the same folder below.







Notice how in the thumbnail preview all the file type icons are red and in the detailed list view the .skb file icons are black and the regular .skp files are red, like I want them.

In this particular folder it does not matter, just an example. But when navigating through other folders that contain many image files as well as the .skb & .skp files it can be confusing to tell which is which and I don't want to edit the wrong one. The thumbnail preview can be very helpful so I am trying to avoid changing the folder views.

If anyone has an idea of how to change that icon in the thumbnail view it would save me a lot of time and confusion, thanks in advance.

 

Thumbnails in Explorer not opening for preview

There are many possible reasons why you are unable to open some thumbnails on the file explorer. For us to assist, kindly provide these following information:

• Are you using Insider preview?
• May we have a screenshot of the thumbnails that you are unable to open.
• What are the troubleshooting methods that you've tried so far?

JPEG Thumbnails NOT showing In Windows 10

Hello,

I have a very unique issue. I am unable to view jpegs in two capacities.

1. can ONLY see icons and NOT thumbnails
2. unable to see thumbnail preview in preview pane
3. I CAN see documents, spreadsheets and etc, I CANNOT see jpegs for some reason

I have checked all settings and can confirm that:

1. Always show icons, never thumbnails option is
   unchecked
2. Display file icon on thumbnails option is checked
3. Show preview handlers in preview pane is checked

I have also tried:

1. Restoring the default settings
2. Restarted my computer
3. Disabled and enabled the settings as a refresher
4. Cleared cache
5. Used Disk Cleanup to remove thumbnails
6. Under the Performance section, I checked Save taskbar thumbnail previews and
   Show thumbnails instead of icons and clicked on Apply and
   OK to save changes.

None of these have resolved the problem.

I need some major help. Please, please, please, if you're out there! Please assist with this issue.
