  1. Unable to clean/wipe disk from repair menu on Windows install after BSOD

Hey all, I got a BSOD with the error "Critical Process Died" yesterday on my laptop. It auto rebooted into bios, and I am unable to boot back into Windows 11.I was told my SSD might be broken, but I have since confirmed it is working and have recovered my data through the command terminal in the repair menu using the "notepad.exe" followed by "open", "move to other drive" method. The "Startup Repair" option does nothing.I have created a bootable flash drive to attempt a clean windows install. I am able to get to the windows setup menu, but now I am unable to delete or format the partitions of m

  2. Clean Install Workaround for Vista

You may remember this news story on techPowerUp! a couple of days ago relating to the lack of clean installs when using the Upgrade Editions of Vista, which required an old OS to be installed. However, Paul Thurrott has managed to find a workaround for this issue, which ironically lets users do a clean install Vista without any previous version of Windows, albeit a little tedious. Here are the steps:
    • Boot from the Windows Vista Upgrade DVD as normal
    • When prompted for a product code, leave this blank
    • Select the version of Vista you have purchased and let Vista install
    • When you boot to your desktop for the first time, run the Vista setup from Windows
    • This time enter your product key
    • When asked whether you want to do an Upgrade of Custom install, select custom and choose a clean install
    • Windows will now install for a second time and you should be able to activate it
Remember, these steps are only advised for use in order to achieve a clean install of Vista, it is only legal to use the upgrade editions if you have previously purchased the appropriate version of Windows.

How to wipe a SSD Clean

I hate to state the obvious, but format it? *Stick Out Tongue Unable to clean/wipe disk from repair menu on Windows install after BSOD :p

If you don't have a computer with an active O/S on it, you can put a Windows disk in, go to install an O/S and wipe it clean when you are prompted to. *Smile Unable to clean/wipe disk from repair menu on Windows install after BSOD :)

Repair UEFI bootrecord with clean hd

With all the machines I have dealt with so far it was sufficient to do this:

    • Boot the machine with a bootable Windows 10 Repair flash disk. You can make one with the command RecoveryDrive.exe. Do NOT copy the system files.
    • Wipe the disk by running diskpart.exe, then using the clean command.
    • Install Windows from the installation medium. The installation process will take care of the UEFI or MBR boot files.
