Windows 10: unable to copy a Bit Locker encrypted folder stored on an external drive, in Windows 11

I had used BitLocker to encrypt my Windows 10 pro PC, and periodically backed up my files to a folder on an external drive.. Last week I had to factory reset my PC because it was freezing frequently. When I tried to copy over my files from the external drive, the folder they are stored with all the files are encrypted and couldn't be transferred. When I try to open the files directly from the external drive they have a locked padlock icon and the error message says: " A problem is preventing this folder from being encrypted." How to decrypt and copy over a Bit Locker encrypted folder stored on an external drive, in Windows 10

I had used BitLocker to encrypt my Windows 10 PC, and periodically backed up my files to a folder on an external drive (that also included backups from different, non-encrypted computers in other folders).

Last week I had to factory reset my PC because it was freezing frequently. When I tried to copy over my files from the external drive, the folder they are stored in along with all the files are encrypted and couldn't be transferred.

When I try to open the files directly from the external drive they have a locked padlock icon and the error message says:

• "It looks like you don't have permission to view this file. Check the permissions and try again".
  

The error messages I receive when I copy over individual files from the external drive to my (reset) PC are:

• "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy this file", and
  
• "You require permission from Everyone to make changes to this file"
  

when I try to copy over entire folders, the error message I get is:

• "Do you want to copy this folder without encryption? A problem is preventing this folder from being encrypted"
  

I have the bit locker recovery key for my PC prior to factory reset. However I can't find a way to transfer my folder back from the external drive into my (now reset) PC.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Bit locker Encryption

Hello Fiends,

Actually my problem is that i have previously installed windows 7 ultimate(32 bit) in my desktop and to protect my data,
encrypted the "D drive" using bit locker, then after few months, i installed
windows 10 pro(64 bit) in my desktop without disabling the bit locker, after installation i was able to access my locked drive with same password.

Till here everything was fine, but after some days my Desktop started to lag then again i switched to
windows 7 ultimate(64 bit).

But Now i'm not able to access my encrypted drive which was locked by bit locker with same password.

While i'm trying to unlock the encrypted drive i'm getting the massage as
"Unable to Complete the requested operation because of either a catastrophic media failure
or a data structure corruption on the disk".

Pls Help.

bit locker & data encryption

I used to have access to Bit Locker and I had encrypted one of my drives with Bit Locker, but after I deleted all the junk files with the software, Bit Locker was no longer active and I could not access the encrypted drive. I had to format the drive.
