Windows 10: Unable to delete an empty icon from desktop (copied and pasted

Hi. I came across a very annoying problem. In the rush of multitasking I copied a folder that was being deleted at the time and pasted it onto my Desktop. Now I have an empty folder icon on my desktop with no name and I can't do anything with it.





None of the options in the context menu work, pressing Delete doesn't work either. When I list contents of my desktop in CMD using DIR command it doesn't display any directories either, as if the folder wasn't there at all.

Please can you help me remove it?

Can't change folder icons in Windows 10

I had a similar issues when trying to change a desktop icon that had documents in folders. I created a new empty folder with the icon I wanted and then cut and pasted the info across, deleted other folder, this seems to have worked.

Hi and thanks for trying to help me. I restarted my s7 galaxy and restarted computer(Desktop). I ran devices and printers. since it would not find the phone, I deleted the phone from control panel. I again restarted both PC and phone. Windows picked up phone
and installed the driver. The DCIM folder shows empty with file transfer. I switched to photo transfer and all pictures show. However when I tried to copy and paste one picture to my desktop screen. It took a year and a day and still was loading. I cancelled
and was unable to delete the icon it created on my desktop for that picture. after about 5 minutes I could see the picture on the desktop, but when I opened it only the top 25pct showed. even though the desktop icon shows full picture???? I am baffled.

UPDATE: I have another Samsung S7 Galaxy that I bought as a gift and never gave it. I connected it to my PC and there is no problems. Therefore the problem is with my phone. THANKS ALL.

I had a similar problem once too in Win8.1, I'm not quite sure how I got rid of it, I think rebooting and when the desktop appeared I immediately tried deleting it. Or.. CCleaner the option to delete dead desktop shortcuts... It's been a while so I'm not sure.

 

Thanks for a speedy reply! Running now in /verify only mode as a test and I'll do /scannow tonight.
