Windows 10: Unable to Drag Icon to System Tray Expanded Section on Taskbar

I am experiencing a problem where I am unable to move the icon from the taskbar to the system tray expanded hidden icons section. Whenever I attempt to drag the icon, the expanded section disappears before I can place the icon in the correct position.Problem Summary:When trying to customize the location of the icon in the taskbar and move it to the system tray, the system tray expanded hidden icons area closes before I can complete the drag-and-drop action. System Icons on taskbar

Are you referring to the clock system icon on the taskbar?

If so, I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below:

• 
  Click on the search bar on the taskbar.
  
• 
  Type system icons.
  
• 
  Under Turn System Icons ON or OFF, turn On the Clock and check with the issue.

Lost clock and calendar from system tray after update on September 25, 2016

Hi,

There are several reasons why this issue happens. To help you resolve this concern, we suggest that you adjust the height of the system tray. Kindly follow the steps below:

• Right-click on the system tray.
• Make sure that the Lock all taskbars
  option is unchecked.
• Try positioning your cursor at the top edge of the system tray until you see a vertical line with arrows at both tips.
  
• Hold the left mouse button down and drag the edge of the system tray upward to expand it.

Tray icons disappear after expanding?

I am glad your problem was solved. I just want to add, in case you don't know, you can drag those icons out of the "show hidden icons" box & onto the
Tray (right side) portion of the Taskbar. To put them back in, just drag them off of the Tray & onto the
Desktop.

Same thing can be done at "START, Settings, Personalization, Taskbar" & click "Select which icons appear on the Taskbar" &/or "Turn system icons on or off".
