Windows 10: Unable to edit files after waking computer from sleep

We have a user experiencing the following:

• User is working on a word document which is located on the on premise file server
  
• User steps away from desk and laptop goes to sleep
• User returns to desk, signs in, continues editing document
• User attempts to save but is prompted with an error stating that the file may be in use by someone else (it isn't) and only gives the user the option to save a copy

We suspected it as something to do with the device losing network connectivity when it goes to sleep due to WIFI, so we have enabled the option to keep WIFI connected when the device goes to sleep, issue still occurred.


The user doesnt't have much an option to work off ethernet as they are fairly mobile, so this hasn't been tested.


Could this be a limitation of how Windows communicates with Windows Server file shares e.g. the connection timesout?


Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Hi Bill,

There's a possibility that the settings that enables your Space bar to wake your computer up from sleep was reset after updating Windows. If this what had happened, we suggest that you just re-set it up. See the steps below on how to do
so:

• Press Windows key and type keyboard in.
• Click on Keyboard option and a pop-up windows should show up.
• From there, go to > Hardware tab > Properties >
  Change settings > Power management > Allow this device to wake the computer >
  OK/Apply.

Try the if the steps did work and let us know any updates.

I suggest you to check which devices are configured to wake up the computer from sleep by following the steps below:

• Right click on Start icon and select Command Prompt (Admin).
• Type the command line below:

Powercfg /devicequery wake_armed

3. Check if the devices (Keyboard, Mouse, Ethernet cable) are listed.

If the system is not going to sleep and going to Hybernate, the only option to wake up is to press the Power button.
