Windows 10: Unable to finish Windows 10 21H1 update

I have a Pavilion laptop running Windows 10, I tried to do an update, and it will tell me that I have plenty of room to update and start updating, it will go all the way through, then when it reboots it tells me that is removing all files, then I am right back where I started. I have disabled Windows Defender, unplugged my external drive. Checked for errors

Unable to update Windows 10 to 21H1

I have two machines both running Windows 10 Pro. Both were on 20H2 prior to updating. One machine updated flawlessly although it took a long time. It is now on 21H1. The other machine gives me an error after quite a long time into the update process. I attached two screenshots of the error. I do not want to call Microsoft because they have been less than helpful in the past. Any suggestions?

When you finish testing the Avast suggestion, make sure that you restart your machine.

Then if the issue persists, please return to the trouble shooting list in post# 89

I think there are three steps that remain; the WU troubleshooter, reset WU components, and manual WU reset.

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
