Windows 10: Unable to install .deskthemepacks

Little bit of a problem here ..........

I had downloaded some pretty nice .deskthemepacks from the Microsoft site and tried to install them by double clicking on them but when I do nothing happens? tried to do the same with some of the .deskthemepacks created here and still the same thing, they do not install, I know the file association is correct because under properties it says it opens with personalization.cpl.

Does anyone know what may be preventing me from installing these .deskthemepacks?

Cannot Open Deskthemepack on Windows 10 PC

After downloading a deskthemepack from Microsoft, I'm unable to open it. Here's what I've done:

1. Double-clicked on the file - I get a "How do you want to open this file?" box. My understanding is that there should be a "Personalization CPL" choice but none is available.

2. I've gone to Settings/System/Default apps and clicked the "Reset" button. The default association shows "Personalization CPL", but when I check the properties of the deskthemepack file, it shows "Open with: Pick an app".

Any ideas?

After downloading try right-clicking the folder and unblocking in properties. Somethings the come from other PCs need to be unblocked(blocking is a security precaution).

 

Tried that already ........ doesn't work.

I double click the file and all I get is a quick blue circle and that's it, they don't install.

 

That's the only idea I had, as I have never had this problem before. Only other thing I can think to so is check system files and run the DISM tool:

You can try fixing the files by copy & pasting in an Admin
Command Prompt:

Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup&sfc/scannow&Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth&sfc/scannow&pause

And let it run through then
reboot and run it again to check if it cleaned everything. It
may take a while depending on your hardware(HDD or SSD), and it may
appear to freeze at 20% on the third part, just be patient and
let in run out.

You're welcome. This is some what of an aspirin for windows, it repairs a lot of errors. Note you should be online(internet) when running this.

 

Well , that didn't work either, ran it twice while online as recommended, rebooted in between each instance and both times came back with "no integrity issues found"

But in an interesting turn of events, I downloaded DeskthemepackInstaller from Winaero and wouldn't you know it, it installs the deskthemepacks and they work!?
