Windows 10: unable to install hp 3600dn 3600n 3600 colour color printer

After calling HP Business support where they told me the print drivers for Windows 8 / 8.1 64 bit would not work on an operating system higher than Vista (I refused to throw out and give up on a perfectly good printer) I did the following:


I tried to download the drivers on my lap top that has Windows 7. It worked perfect. Then I decided to try the same method on my Windows 8.1 64 bit. Installation was fast, easy, and works perfect.


This is what I did:

1. Uninstalled the hp driver for 8.1 in the control panel.
2. Uninstalled the dot4 driver in the control panel.
3. Uninstalled HP help and assistant from the control panel.
4. Downloaded the Windows 7 64 bit driver from www.hp.com.
5. Plugged in the 3600n printer with a usb port to my computer.
6. Went to Device manager selected add a printer.
7. Selected "printer not listed".
8. Selected add a local printer and changed lpt1 to usb virtual printer.
9. Selected have disk.
10. Selected browse and found the HP installer 3600 folder in the c directory.
11. Selected driver folder.
12. Selected x64 (64 bit - xp_s2003_vista).
13. hpc3600w.inf appeared in the window and selected open
14. C:\HP_CLJ_3600_Installer_WW\Drivers\x64(64 bit - XP_S2003_Vista) appeared in the window and selected
15. Selected OK and the printer installed

Was extremely helpful, and was able to install the HP 3600 printer on Windows 10 system

The trick was to remove Dot4 and all 3600 drivers installed earlier. Then go to hp site and select you operating system as a Windows 7

and install the 147mb size file for 3600 printer, install it manually as described my mmagda
This 2006 model printer is still going strong and is better than many of the latest printers, and with the help of people like mmagda

we are able to get more juice out of this fine piece of technology, which otherwise is rendered obsolete.

Query regarding : HP Color LaserJet 3600N Driver for Windows 10

I can download and install the driver from HP and the windows 10 pc recognizes the printer, but asks for a driver and it is not listed under the HP (3000 and 3700 are, but not 3600).

When I "look for a new printer" it does not find the HP Color LaserJet 3600N which is attached by Ethernet to the local network through the modem/router.
When I use the box "look for my printer which might be a little older" it then finds the HP Color LaserJet 3600N. BUT in the next step it wants me to select the model of the printer to install a driver. Even when I select the option for Windows to update
drivers first, I cannot find "3600 Color LaserJet " under "HP". I can find "3000 Color LaserJet" and "3700 Color LaserJet" but not 3600. It is odd, however, since the computer is finding the printer and properly identifying it as HP Color LaserJet 3600N.
I have tried to install the drivers for the "3000" and "3700" but they do not work. A test page gets to the printer, but it prints an error message rather than the test page.
I have been to the HP site and downloaded "Driver - USB (1)" and installed it. However, I am not surprised this does not fix things as the printer is a network and printer and is attached to the network with an Ethernet cable not a USB.
I am really at a loss. The Windows 7 desktop I was using before switching to a laptop running Windows 10 had no trouble with the printer. But so far neither the Lenovo Yoga 900 or Surface Pro 3 laptops have been able to print even though they are all
hooked to the same network and, when installing, the printer is "found" (right down to the serial number).
I'll take any help I can get.

OK I AM LETTING MS KNOW HOW IT GOES!!! IT DOES NOT GGGGGOOOOO. I HAVE GONE TO THE HP WEB SITE AND TO THE MS 10 WEB SITE AND NO ONE IS ABLE TO HELP ME FIND AND INSTALL THE PRINTER DRIVER FOR MY HP COLOR LASERJET 3600n PRINTER. THE MANUFACTURER OF HP IS
WORTHLESS. WHY CAN'T WINDOWS 10 HAVE THIS DRIVER PREINSTALLED WITH ALL THE OTHER PRINTER DRIVER OF WHICH THERE MUST BE 500 FROM BROTHER TO HP TO PANASONIC, ETC. WHERE IS THE ONE FOR THE 3600n WHICH ALL OF US HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT FOR WHICH WE GET NO
ASSISTANCE. MS AND HP TICK ME OFF TO NO END. I DEMAND THAT A TECH PERSON FROM MS OR HP CALL ME AND FIX THIS PROBLEM WHICH YOU CREATED......I DIDN'T CAUSE IT. The driver installed beautifully on my ACER Windows XP and 7 models but not Windows 10. What is
your story???
