I coud not install update KB5016616 I had try everything found on the web about repairing the error but nothing seems to work

 

Unable to restart laptop after failed attempt to install Windows 10 update KB5016616

I am unable to restart Windows. When I try to do so, it turns off, but when it turns back on, I get a BSOD with the error code SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED. The laptop then reboots itself several times, hitting the same error. Eventually Automatic Repair runs, but it does not fix the problem.



To be clear, this is only about restarting Windows. If I do a full shutdown, and then turn on, it works as expected. Note that I have Fast Startup disabled.



I am running Windows 10 21H2. I first hit this issue while trying to install the update KB5016616. The laptop restarted to install the update, but hit the BSODs, and after a full shutdown power up, the update was rolled back because it failed to install.



I have tried these things to try to fix the issue:

• Disable all services in the Startup tab of Task Manager
  
• Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter
  
• Roll back to a system restore point before I first attempted the update
  
• Use Safe Mode to uninstall the most recently installed updates in case they caused the issue: KB5012170 and KB5015847.
  

None of these worked. Note that I was not able to uninstall the mentioned updates, because on rebooting, I got the same BSODs, and eventually the uninstall process was rolled back.



The Windows Update menu mentions the error code 0x800f0845.

Finally, there is the following log entry in SrtTrail.txt:

A recently serviced boot binary is corrupt.

Repair action: Abort pending update installations
Result: Completed successfully. Error code = 0x0
Time taken = 64015 ms
