Unable to Install Win10 on tablet using USB - Boot Fail?

    Hello;

The resolution for me was to 'Disable Secure Boot'!

I thank everyone for the assistance.

    Here is my original question:
I'm unable to install the windows 10 tech preview. Any assistance is appreciated.

    • I downloaded the iso file from the windows page http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-iso The english 64 bit version.
    • Then used Rufus to create a bootable USB drive.
    • Then set bios to use USB first
    • Then when pc restarts the I get a bios looking error screen that states 'Boot Failed'

I'm using a 2 in 1 tablet HP Pavilion x2 K3N13UA#ABA with a keyboard. ( I've tried with and without the keyboard not sure if that matters )

When I restart the pc the usb shows the red light flickering as if it was reading but then it just boots as normal just boots into Win8.1. I also when the pc is on going to control panel then recovery options then chose the 3rd option which is to restart and boot from usb and then when I restart I get the Boot Failed message as shown below:

Rufus: I've tried a few different combinations with rufus I've tried the MBR for Bios or UEFI comp combined with NTFS & Fat32. I've also tried the GFT for UEFI with FAT32.

Any suggestions on how to install windows 10 on a tablet using a USB

    Thanks in advance;
    Catto

    :)

  2. How to install win10 through winpe with only touchscreen and no other inputs?

I want to install win10 on my tablet with only one usb port and touch screen input. I have tried to use media creation tool from microsoft but I was unable to operate when I boot into my usb, meaning my touchscreen is not responsive in winPE. I was wondering
if anyone else is experiencing this dilemma where if I wanted to click on 'next' button on the screen, I have to unplug usb stick and plug in a mouse, and when that happens, I cannot proceed my installation process because my usb has been removed already.

I have tried usb hub. But the hub is not stable on the tablet for some reason.

  3. Windows 10 install fails on Dell Venue 8 Pro

    Hi Michael,

I was not getting any message.

The update bricked my tablet, as the default configuration for encryption was ON and for some reason the update crashed because of this. I figured this out because I entered the advanced boot options and when tried to restore the message said the drive was
    locked by Bitlocker.

To solve this, using another PC I downloaded the Media Creation Tool and created an install USB drive with the Win10 media. Then, disabled the "security boot" in BIOS options. Also changed the boot sequence so the USB drive had priority over the internal
    drive.

Had also to enter the MSFT bitlocker website and get the recovery key.

Lastly, I booted the tablet, entered the recovery key, and waited for the boot using the USB drive. Followed the onscreen instructions for a clean Win10 install. This worked but a caveat is I had to download the specific dell drivers to the USB also, so
once the device was configured I had to install the drivers to enable the touch and wireless functions.

Now everything is working again - too much trouble for an update. MSFT should spend more time in testing.

Unable to Install Win10 on tablet using USB - Boot Fail?

Have you opened the usb drive while your device is booted up and had a look at it? If this is not a main production pc maybe you could start the install while booted. Mount the usb and click on set up? Sounds to me like something wrong with your iso.
Good luck to you and welcome to 10Forums

I did open the USB drive and saw the setup.exe. I will try to just click that tonight; I guess I didn't think that would work but it's worth a try. I'll reply tonight. Thanks for the suggestion.

    I used the :
GFT partition scheme for UEFI comp - ( the default one)
    NTFS
    4096 byte - ( default cluster size )
I pointed it to the iso and the radio button was standerd windows installation.

Basically all the defaults. That was my first thought that it might have been a setting when I made the USB bootable drive.

Unable to Install Win10 on tablet using USB - Boot Fail?

Another Idea I had that I'll try tonight is that it's a HP pavilion 2 in 1 and I was trying without the keyboard. Tonight I'm gonna try it with the keyboard plugged in. Does anyone know if that would make a difference?

Ok FAT32 I'll try it tonight. Sounds good. I remember changing that drop down to FAT32 and the Rufus app automatically changed it back to NTFS so I went that way. I'll reply when I try that. I appreciate all the feedback & assistance.
